Looks like a few of us will be completing before the end of this year! :T lee111s hope you get good news soon :)

Just got an email from the EA replying to another question of mine, and mentioning that she'd heard the Notices to Complete were sent out to all the solicitors today. Haven't heard from my solicitor yet so guess its in the post! Yargh. Its all happening!

Have now realised though, that although I know that completion of the sale is 10 days after the building completion notice....I have no idea if that's 10 working days or 10 actual days

Is anyone else gutted to have found out that their development happened too late to take advantage of OpenReachs free FTTP for new builds agreement? Worst thing is, my house is less than 200 metres from the already fibre-enabled exchange! It would have been an easy job for BT, right?! :wall:

My builder said it's 10 working days, or two weeks but it doesn't have be exactly 10 working days, it can be negotiated to be a few days before.

You might still be able to get fibre to the cabinet giving speeds of up to 80meg. BT's network is bespoke and very complex. It's not as easy as "just adding a bit off fibre in" unfortunately.

Thanks lee111s, 10 working days makes sense. Hopefully will hear from my solicitor soon to find out whether it can be brought forward a bit.

Yeah it seems very complicated! Especially as BT and OpenReach don't seem to have the best communication. Oh well, hopefully at some point in the next few years we will get connected like the rest of the area!
  • Nothing with BT/ Openreach is easy!
We have been in our new build for 7.5 months- can't believe it's almost a year since I joined this thread! Anyway, we have ONLY had our broadband and phoneline for 2 weeks!!!! I'm hoping this is a one off and for anyone else it is quicker, but the frustrating thing is you can't speak to Openreach directly, just your service provider (Sky in our case).

Openreach are currently looking into my complaint as we've paid a lot on mobile data and they spent the last 3 months lying about waiting for council permission to dig up the road. But we're there now!

Only 3 houses still empty on our site of 34, the road is *almost* finished (hopefully my car won't get as filthy) but our street lights are still off. Our site seems to be taking quite a long time, whereas there are 2 other developments down the road by other developers that have gone up very quickly.

A couple of new snagging issues- guttering wasn't fitted at the joint so that had to be fixed, the seal on the shower screen came away and caused more ceiling damage in the downstairs WC (this happened when the main bath seal went too). Last week we had water staining on the bathroom ceiling too; this was caused by the extractor pipe not being fitted properly. They've replaced the vent on the roof, fixed the pipe and are repairing the ceiling. They'll also need to replace some of the loft insulation which is on order.

All in all this hasn't put me off buying a new build. I really feel our snagging has been minor (touch wood), and given my last house was trying to kill me off by the time we left this has been quite simple. It's definitely been a bonus still having staff on site though.

Loving seeing you guys all go through your exciting, if somewhat nervy times!
  • Can you get virgin? We couldn't get openreach either but virgin was already cables in so we are taking advantage of virgin media completely free for 3 months.

NHBC final inspection is happening on Friday.

There was a delay with the electric meter which pushed things back a week.

If it passes, we'll be moving on November 30th :)

Careful what you wish for. My house was fitted with FTTP, something I was initially pleased about. Unfortunately it instantly limited me to only two providers to choose from - BT & Zen. I've got a service no faster than that I had previously on Infinity (80Mb down/20Mb up) but paying almost twice the price every month. Granted if you need it and can afford it then you can get up to 300Mb/s down but it is pricy.

Ultimately in the long run as more ISPs adopt FTTP via Openreach Wholesale then it will bring benefits but in the short term I have no real benefit between FTTC and FTTP and paying more for it.

The price for Infinity 2 is exactly the same whether it's delivered via FTTC or FTTP.

    Update from the sales office.

Froday is definitely still inspection date!

Been advised to prep my solicitor that it's going ahead and that if the monies can be drawn and the legal side sorted then we could be in as early as next Friday, November 25th! Just waiting on the solicitor calling back.

Will update when I know more.

In the mean time here's a pic from about 7 weeks ago

That is true, but it's more expensive than Plus Net's pricing which is who I used previously and would have been my first choice.
