Don't forget you can't really paint walls for a good 6 months or so as you have to let the walls dry, breathe and settle in...0

Not an issue for me, the house has been weather tight for 6 months and the internal walls went in soon after. Been other things holding it all up.
Anyway, not doing a lot of painting, just some accent walls and I'll keep some paint spare in case repairs are required. With paints not being the heavy industrial chemical mixes they once were, things are a little different now anyway than they used to be...0 -

I'm the total opposite of a hoarder (my dad was a terrible hoarder; you couldn't move in our garage, shed, attic or spare bedroom when we were kids because they were full to the brim of "collected" stuff so I've always tried to be the opposite) but I've still found so much stuff I'd forgotten I had, don't need or want anymore, and is now in the bin!
Which builder are you buying from? Have you had any problems with them so far?
Same here. I don't do clutter at all. But god ive been holding onto stuff!
Our builder is David Wilson. I just want to get in there now!
Would love to see people's curtains and light fittings for inspiration!0 -
So, a quick update from me. I finally got back from my work trip a fortnight ago and am now on my second stint away. Good news is I got a week at home to look at the house. The bank holiday weekend certainly got in the way a bit in terms of getting flooring quotes done but I eventually found a company local to me who matched my budget. Interestingly of all the supplier I've spoken to they were the only one to tell me I didn't need to pay VAT on hard flooring in a new build - Probably a good £800 saved there. Gone as expected with Karndean downstairs and in the bathrooms and carpet through the rest of the house.
Other than flooring lighting is the item I've spent most time on, got fittings for the entire house sorted. Lots more choice out there than you realise, haven't got as far as replacing any fittings yet but no doubt will in future.
I abandoned my plan to pain the features walls as it's too soon since it was built, also couldn't find the colours I wanted in non-vinyl paint so will wait 6 months at least. Also ordered a bed from Oak Furniture Land and a sofa from Sofology. Blinds I've ordered on-line.
With the exception of the furniture and the floors I can see myself re-doing a lot of the rooms once I've been in for a couple of years but for now the priority is to get it usable.
So, flooring goes down in the next week and once back in the UK I can move in at long last - can't wait to actually live there. Still not met the neighbours properly.0 -

Really? Isn't one of the advantages of buying a new build that you probably won't have to do as much to the house in the first few years?0 -

I'm definitely feeling that our bathrooms will need to be done next year! Can't wait to get them out!0 -

It's a case of that right now I'm doing the whole house to make it usable and in a way I can afford and I'm not trying to do too much all in one go as quite frankly it would be overwhelming. So for example all the rooms are painted white and are staying that way and I'm having one carpet colour throughout.
What I mean by revisit is to return to each room over a period of years probably and re-do each one, re-decorate maybe change the colour and give each one a distinctive identity. Plus i want to live in the house and come back to it once I have a feel for what I'd like to have.
Budget is a large part too in that right now I'm doing it in the way I can afford to as it's a whole house that needs doing, without that pressure I can focus my finances as well as my time and effort on each room.0 -

No VAT on hard flooring in new houses? Seriously? Is this with every new house?
Just asking as looking to put Karndean down on my floor once I move in.0
