No VAT on hard flooring in new houses? Seriously? Is this with every new house?

Just asking as looking to put Karndean down on my floor once I move in.

That's what the supplier I'm using told me (and more importantly has charged me!). I knew that builders didn't pay VAT on new-builds but didn't think that extended to purchasers. Ultimately they were significantly cheaper than other quotes so I'm paying less.
  • I think it is the labour there's no vat on. Some will pass the discount on, others will get you to claim it back.

I was told everything and haven't been charged it. Whatever they did it works for me!

Showhome for the style we're buying opened today on a different site. We absolutely loved it! It's just what we want and it's amazing to see the space we have with things in. Also stole some great design ideas ;)

Be very careful about show homes, they use furniture that makes the room feel bigger than it actually is (such as non standard beds and thin depth drawers.

Measure the show home like crazy and then plan what you need (we went to two different show hows for our style, both decorated very different and both made us realise that the reality of furniture means you can't necessarily fit as much as the show home makes you think you can!

We actually commented on how they have actualy used full sized furniture as we're well aware of the tricks they play!

It's a 4bed detatched we're buying so the rooms are actually good sizes, not small boxes like some new builds ;)
  • Our show home is the same. They've used a super king bed etc still with loads of space. I want a super King now!

I've only gone for a double - wonder if I'll regret that decision?

Are Barratts making you sign a disclaimer for the flooring? We are buying from DWH (same company) and they have given us a disclaimer to sign so that our carpet can be fitted before completion. I had a look and really didn't want to sign it! I got legal advice and it redrafted and they wouldn't accept it. So not sure what we're doing about that yet!
