Help!cats using my garden as a loo (merged threads)

I would say that the veg will be safe to eat give it a good wash but to me it seems silly to worry about cat poo and chase the cats off by purposely covering the soil with chicken poo. Why is the cat poo worse except that you can watch the cat doing it?
I still wouldn't just leave it there but use a spade or trowel and move the poo to your compost pile or garden waste if you don't want it in the compost and forget where it was.0 -

I was thinking of putting chicken wire or the greenhouse shading net round and over attatching it to some woodnen stakes but couldn't figure out how I would access this to work, weed or eat without rebuilding it each time?
Has any one else done this? And how?

The stench is what makes it evil and the fact that it is not my blasted cat, Iam damn sure the cat owner wouldn't eat something their cat had pooed on first would they?!Pucker up and kiss it Whoville! - The Grinch:kiss:0 -

I've used "silent roar" for years and can tell you it's very effective.
Worth a try.
Don't put cat poo on the compost heap though, pop it in a carrier bag and bin it.It should'nt be put on the compost ever.0 -

Because chicken poo is used as a fertiliser and cat poo can cause toxoplasmosis-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

I tried the olbas oil and it did no good but I will get some chicken poo and try that. Does it smell really evil though?
Would you change all the soil or just the top few inches?
You get the piece of chicken wire and lay it over the bed when you have dug or have sowed seeds. When the plants have germinated and have grown a bit, take the chicken wire off and instead put cardboard around the plants, leaving as small a space as you can.
This will also keep down weeds and keep the moisture in the soil btw.
The chicken wire can be pulled off and put back easily any time you want.
It obviously helps if you have raised beds all the same size, I have wire cut to the right size and move them around as needed.
In the winter keep all bare earth covered up with cardboard or plastic.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
There is a HUGE thread about cats here somewhere!
I have cats who use their litter tray, but have a fairly new neighbour who allows their cat to go wherever it pleases and its latest area is my veggie garden! It only has to see me appear at the conservatory door before its off. I hoped the chickens might scare it off, but no such luck!
I have tried Roar with some success and also used twiggy sticks stuck into the ground at close proximity which also helps.
This year though I have put some trellis along the wall it is using to get into the garden, and will also put some net covered frames over the beds - plus it will stop the chickens from digging too! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
