The granules mentioned by sb44, are Cat Repellent from Growing Success:

I have used them for about ten years, they work very well and as you only need a light sprinkle, cover a much larger area than the jells and sprays.
It does smell a bit (like curry to me), but isn't really noticeable once applied.

Might get some of these as a precaution. They have got a litter tray for the cat so we will see how it goes, I won't prejudge the cat before it's even here;)

Another idea is a sand tray, they are meant to poo in that instead of on the muck!

A supersoaker waterpistol thing is a great deterrent. I love cats but I took mild delight in persuading next door's evil siamese not to go anywhere near our nesting bluetits. The other thing that helped was tying a web of old bicycle inners through the tree where the nest box was. Yes I realise not everyone has a box of old inner tubes around, but the cat hated climbing the tree after that.

You never know...the cat might be a mild mannered and affectionate animal with very fussy toilet habits. Quite a lot are, you know!

The ones around here are! They like to poo just where my bulbs are coming up, so they can scratch the tops off! That or on top of my jacob ladder seedlings

Can anyone suggest a cheap (and humane!) way of stopping cats doing their business in your garden?

Lots of threads on the gardening board about this and to save you looking nobody ever has found a legal way to stop cats crapping in other people's gardens !

Hello archie9uk

I'll move your thread to the 'Greenfingered' board, where the board guide can merge it with the existing thread:

Help!cats using my grass as a loo (merged threads)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

You can buy electrical fencing that goes on top of walls or electrical tape which can just be stuck to the top of fences, they're designed exactly for this type of problem. Barbed wire along fences is also an excellent solution. You can also buy electrical grids and netting for flowerbeds etc which will shock anything that touches it. Pain/force is the only thing that works and those are the only 2 legal ways of doing it, besides a dog of course. We had the same problem with cats, it's so annoying that people don't control their animals, allowing them to roam the neighbourhood posing a danger to motorists, children and other animals, as well as making a nuisance by destroying gardens and bin bags, people lack responsiblity these days.
