  • Persuade the cat owners to put a collar on the cat with a bell. You can get soem with very loud bells. You can also get a device that reacts when the cat pounces.

Just to add... the squirting idea, is great. But, I have never managed to get close enough...... A remote control one from behind the curtains maybe???

I bought the kids a pump-action type water pistol each..just add water and sit back and relax!!

The cat next door used to hunt in our garden all the time (not to mention doing it's business) Now it scarpers when it sees the kids so it seems to have worked

  • The cat might not actually like your garden! My cats are house cats, but Mum's go out for toilets duties. They don't go to the left, only to the right! You might be lucky!

[quote=Jake'sGran;. The things I have tried include:
citrus peelings, Lion's Road (supposed to a mixture of lion faeces and something else)

You will think I am mad. This should read "LION'S ROAR"

  • The only problem with the high pitched noise device is I think children can hear them. I certainly think my son used to be able to.

Thank you for all your replies. I will wait to see how the cat behaves I think before taking measures, only fair, not to prejudge;). I might be looking out for one of those plants though.

The granules mentioned by sb44, are Cat Repellent from Growing Success:

I have used them for about ten years, they work very well and as you only need a light sprinkle, cover a much larger area than the jells and sprays.
It does smell a bit (like curry to me), but isn't really noticeable once applied.
  • It might well not even go in your garden, not all like to go outside and prefer to stay in the warm with their litter tray. I read somewhere filling one of those big fizzy drinks bottles with some water and lying it down in the flower bed is supposed to keep them away as they don't like the reflection. Not entirely sure how this would work but it's worth a try.
