Have you tried the trick of using your empty lemonade/coke/water bottles, filling them up with water 80-90% of the way and placing them here and there in your garden. Mum used to do this all those years ago. Plus my cat goes skitty when you shake a water bottle at her, for some reason it scares her and she runs away, although I dont make a habit of trying to scare my cat!0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This is a long thread, but did someone already mention the Lion's dung pellets you can buy? They are effective, however not cheap as need refreshing every so often. Don't worry they are small, invisible and odourless (to humans).

Mixed reviews and rain washes it out but it worked for us when applied just where the cats like to go most.0 -
Neighbours are getting a female cat, gardens are open plan, what can I do to deter it, I have lots of birds come to my garden. Don't like cats, but wouldn't harm one or any creature.0

This thread has masses of information, I would try there. Hopefully you'll get lucky and the cat won't be into hunting. I have a cat who is scared of all birds, far from protecting the birds from him I have to stop the robins from attacking him! :rotfl:0 -
You should be able to find masses of info on BBC Talk- Gardening section and Allotments4All. The only thing I have not tried but one regular poster uses and swears by is a scarecrow type of thing that squirts water on the cats. We just have one cat that won't be deterred. It's evil and skulks in the shrubs around my bird feeding station. The things I have tried include:
citrus peelings, Lion's Road (supposed to a mixture of lion faeces and something else)
A plug in device that emits a very high pitched noise, a jell-like chemical called Get off my Garden and many more. Maybe some work as we just have this one cat that comes back. I love my birds.0 -
I like the idea of squirting as it is harmless and maybe the moth balls, I will see how the cat behaves once it is in residence next door.
Thanks for your replies.0 -
I have put the birdfeeder right outside the patio doors so I can enjoy the birds and I can scare any cats away quite quickly.
Next door's cat keeps coming in and leaving little deposits in my veg patch.
I used to sling it over the adjoining fence.... their cat.... their !!!!!!.
Then one evening I had a knock on the door....
Apparently their cat doesn't DO things like that.
I have tried all sorts, it has cost a small fortune and nothing seems to work. I chase it away when I see it... let the dog out to chase it too, but I can't camp out. I have learned to just accept it as a fact of life and try not to let it bug me so much anymore. Not very helpful I know.....0 -
Just to add... the squirting idea, is great. But, I have never managed to get close enough...... A remote control one from behind the curtains maybe???0

A neighbour buys a tub of granules to ward off cats from Wilkinsons but I am not sure what it is called. I think it is in a tall white plastic bottle with a cat on the front.
It absolutely reeks of garlic.
She says she has been using it for years and has never had any cats in the garden.0
