I am pretty much at my wit's end: our (pretty small) front flower beds seem to have become the chosen toilet for (I don't know how many 'cos I never catch them) cats. This has been going on about a year now, which coincides with several new neighbours all of whom have cats.

It's really upsetting for my g/f who spends ages gardening only to have it dug up and full of cat sh*t every day. And the fact it's upsetting my g/f is bothering me very much.

So far we've tried untold different "cat repellents" from stores, none of which have done anything whatsoever. We've also tried, on advice, lemons cut into segements & moth balls, neither of which did anything either. Also tried Silent Roar which got rave reviews but not only failed completely, it seemed to act like some kind of catnip & made the problem worse.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

Tie string across in all angles and about a couple of inches high, so they basically cant stand there! Then once the plants are abit bigger and have spread out remove the string. Only thing that seems to be working for me so far, tried it with net but they had a dump on top of it!

try filling up a clear plastic bottle with water and lay it amongst the plants- obviously it is not for the cats to swig out- and take the labels of- apparently cats hate it...

    taken from my gardening book
dry out tea bags then spray them with a muscle spray ie deep heat even a cheap one will do.
the teabags can then be buried about 12mm deep over the soil area were the cats poo 3 teabags every square yard will do the trick.
the cats hate the smell and will keep away ans as its oil based ints not easy to washaway it will last for approx 4 weeks and will keep the cats away,

I have a very prickly shrub in my garden with long thorns on.I cut bits off it & lay them on my garden beds. This seems to stop the cats from using it as a toilet & it also stop the birds from digging my plants up.
Other than that I have heard that lion manure from a zoo helps.(bit smelly though).
Good luck & if you find out whose cat it is,deliver the sh.. back to them.

    1) Briars - cut to about one foot long, and allowed to dry out and die off (so they don't take root) laid on the bare areas - and if they've got side shoots even better.

    2) If you are prepared to to look like an idiot in front of the neighbours - If you catch them in the garden chase them off with gusto 'barking' at them at the same time!

Ooh and check out the sonic gun from the big cheese company - great fun.
  • Mix rat poison with cat food and leave it out for them. You'll never see them again.
