Thanks for replies, just read the merged threads and it seems like orange peel might be worth a try. I have heard about lion poo, and I also live not far from Knowsley safari park, but I think I'll pass on that, as at the minute I have lots of little piles of cat poo, but I dont really want piles of much larger lion poo alla arounf my new garden. It's tempting though.

  • Calley we got an electronic cat/heron scarer from Ebay for £43 inc p&p. Works by spraying the cats with water (like if you were standing there with a hose pipe). When we had it attached, we only had one cat in the garden who wanted to try it out!! We had it disconnected over the summer for various reasons but only the odd cat has ventured into our garden. We will be setting it up again soon. Recommend highly to anyone with cat intruders! The guy selling them has them for sale now item no. 7713596680. Hope that helps.
  • catmint, its a plant if i'm right in thinkingcan't quite remember if they actually like it or not but if you go to a local garden centre or ring up i'm sure they can reccommend a few plants to stop them. Bob Martin also do sprays to prevent dogs from doing there do's where you don't want......
  • i bought my kids water pistols they have had great fun sqiirting everything in our street, much to the disgust of all the animal owners in the street !! keeps em away now anycase !!

    Hi wazza,

I hope that you don't mind, but I am going to move your thread over to the In My Home board, so that it can be merged with the long running thread on cats fouling the garden.

  • I have not read every post, but has anyone tried garlic to keep cats off the garden? I had a gravelled area and used to sprinkle it once a month with garlic and hot chillis liquidised then mixed with a watering can full of water. Sometimes to save time I just crushed the whole bulbs (in a plastic bag, bash with a rolling pin) then scattered the bits around the garden. Either way it worked a treat, no more cat crap.
  • I have just received and installed my "electronic cat repellent" in front garden. Slightly my fault, I choose to lay 2 tons of "cornish shingles" that looks very much like cat litter......up to 9 drops a week.....since it is in place ie. Monday night, I have not seen anything. I keep my fingers crossed but this looks very promissing. £25 from Ebay, powers from the mains (also exists battery powered same price).
  • Get in touch with your local zoo and see if they have any big cat poo or wee. The reasoning being that your local moggy 'knows' to be scared of big cats.

I have never tested whether this works but ask yourself, have you ever seen a domesticated cat in a tigers enclosure ?

The other slight problem is that tiger wee smells like a thousand gallons of cat wee.

    Good luck

    Hi everyone,

Hope someone might be able to help - I came home from work at lunchtime today to catch up on some stuff, although inevitably ended up surfing on here!!!

There was then this awful screech just outside the bedroom so I went running out to find a huge great cat had come through the cat flap and was attacking my little cat! She was standing up for herself but obviously very frightened so I shut her away in another room to try and get the other cat, at which point it pooed on my dining room carpet and starting trying to attack me. I was frightened so started screaming at it to "get out, get out!" (gosh, what a sight! lol) to which it threw itself up against the patio doors before barging past in the hunt for my own cat again! Eventually, I shut my self and my cat in a bedroom and waited for the cat to leave, which it did.

Judging by how clingy my cat has been since this I don't think it has happened before but does anyone have any ideas about how to prevent the cat from coming back. It didn't seem to be after food, as it ignored the food bowl in the kitchen and just came straight upstairs in search of my cat.

Sounds like a male cat checking out some new territory, and possibly looking for some luurve.

Best way to get rid of unwanted cats is to speak to them in their own language - narrow your eyes, don't blink (it's a sign of weakness/submission), make yourself big (scarecrow pose) and hiss!!! Do this until they are off your territory, not just out of the house. Yes, I chase them down the garden!!

The pooing sounds unusual and possibly a sign of fear of you, but if it starts spraying (you'll know, it stinks) and won't go away then contact your local cat charity for a trap and then arrange to take it to the vet. I had to do this once with a feral tom.

Best not to shut your cat out of the way, just do the above to back her up in her efforts to defend her territory.

This can be a slow process though, especially if the cat is new to the area, as you need to establish that you are boss of your territory and won;t hand it over.

In dire circumstances, a cup of water thrown at the cat while you are hising, etc., is very effective.

Feral (once domestic, now wild) cats, and especially toms can be very aggressive, so if it actually goes for you the trap is the best way. IF it's chipped then the vet can contact the owner, if not they neuter them and then find them a new home.
