It was sad about George Michael.:( I didn't realise he was only 53, not that he looked older, but that he has been around for so long.
I'm not planning on going anywhere today, just eating Christmas dinner again and drinking wine and watching TV.:)0 -

All this talk of what to do when there's no hot water reminds me of a Christmas in the late 90s when LNE and I spent several days with my brother and sil. The power went off shortly after we arrived, and didn't come back on until after we'd left. Their house is in the middle of nowhere and doesn't have mains gas so there was no heating, lighting or hot water. We had an open fire in the living room, a trangia with half a bottle of meths for cooking on, and a few head torches to wear about the house once it got dark. I have never been so cold.
By the following winter, they'd got bottled gas for cooking with and other supplies for surviving power cuts, but they've never again had a power cut while I've been visiting them.
Off out for a walk with DS and my dad now. DD not feeling well. I think she is going down with what DS and I have already had.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Don't worry Pyxis, I didn't think you were being patronising at all, just helping as usual :A Our TV doesn't do the PIP in the corner, sadly. We've got Freesat.
Spirit How lovely to "see" you! :j We've been missing you. I hope you are okay
Been to see DD2 and family this morning; going to DD1's presently, and just wondering if there are any strawberry trifles left at the local Co-Op. I blame PasturesNewBut we do have a cheesecake to take with us.
ETA I don't mean that PN has bought up all the trifles, but that she's made me think I'd really like some trifle!0 -

ETA I don't mean that PN has bought up all the trifles, but that she's made me think I'd really like some trifle!I didn't buy them all... unless only one trifle was made in the whole country this year.
The 99p Aldi trifle has no cakey bits that I can remember seeing. It's strawberries in jelly, then custard, then piped cream. I am a big fan of the cakey bits..... and the custard and the cream, not so much fruit/jelly bits.0 -
The very nicestest trifle I've ever ever had was one I made myself.
Yonks ago, when I was into cooking from absolute scratch.
Home-made sponge.
Home-made proper custard, made with eggs and lots of stirring etc.
Fruits. Fruits. More fruits.
Chopped nuts. Flaked almonds. A dusting of cinnamon. A light touch of mixed spice.
Double cream, whipped thickly.
More chopped, roasted nuts.
Die and go to heaven!
Any leftovers were next day's breakfast!(I just lurve spiders!)

It sounds superb. How come there were leftovers? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I've put James and Josh in charge of cooking the sausage rolls, they don't like my baking trays (they are old....I did ask for some more on my Christmas list!), they have had troubles working together initiallly but I think they have cracked it now.
I've now spent 24 hours in the last 24 hours in bed, unheard of for me but I think (I hope, will have to see when I get up), I am feeling a little better. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I nuked leftovers at lunchtime .... now tucking into a seafood cocktail sandwich.
I'm "all fooded out" to be honest. Eyes were bigger than my belly and I've enough food for a month.
Still unopened is ..... everything really
Can't stick anything in the freezer either, that's full of all the stuff I bought before Xmas. e.g. some reduced cheese/onion pasties, some apple pie, couple of focaccia individual breads topped with stuff .... a ton of frozen Xmas Day veg, a couple of cottage pies and a chilli/rice I picked up in the run up to Xmas (30% off).
And I've still 300 grams of turkey left, a tub of mash, a tub of mashed swede, 2 parsnip slices - all fresh veggies; I've a portion of stuffing made but not cooked, an opened vacuum bag of chestnuts (I meant to add to the brussels and forgot) .... and 2Kg of Maris pipers, a whole bag of carrots (minus the one I cooked) ...
I've got three peppers, a 250gram tub of tomatoes bought mid-December, a quiche, a 6 pack of sausage rolls, cooked chilli meatballs, slices of chorizo, a roll of ready-rolled pastry, two tubs of sandwich filler ....
And that's just what I can remember off the top of my head.0
