Thinking about it - your problem is you have no hot water.... I presume you still have heating - and that your bathroom's heated?
Fill the bath with cold water, make sure the plug's TIGHT, then leave it to warm up to room temperature overnight. Should be good to go for a quick dunk in the morning.
Once used, drain, refill and use again early evening. Two opportunities/day.0 -
We arrived in Sheringham and turned on the hot water. No hot water, so immersion heater has packed in. There seem to be no shops open that sell the things until Wednesday. We are going to be so pongy!Hotels are still open....
No room at the inn on Christmas day...where have I heard that before?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Fortunately you are near the sea..... have a swim instead!:)Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Oh Sue, what a rotten shame to feel so rough! I hope tomorrow (or rather today) will be better.
Pyxis Thank youI know how to record a programme but it can't be done without losing the picture briefly, even though one still has the sound, so i thought I'd leave it until TOTP was finished, which I did
I typed most of my earlier post more than an hour before sending it - stopped in mid-post to go and prepare the veg, and managed to slice my finger while doing the carrots. I was so cross, as it had all been going so well up until then! Ended up yelling for OH to fetch me a clean teatowel to wrap round it, while dripping gore into the sink. Eventually the bleeding more or less stopped and DS put a plaster on it for me. It's an Ikea Family one with cartoon cats on it, because they're the only plasters that stick properly!
OH finished off the cooking and serving while I directed him.
And now I'm downstairs at this ridiculous hour because he keeps snoring and snorting and twitching  Fourth night in a row.0 -

You must be a youngster!
In the olden days, before central heating, when the immersion for a bath was only put on once a week, we used to boil a couple of kettles/saucepans of hot water, take them up to the bathroom basin and have a good old strip wash.
Even my very long hair got washed at the kitchen sink using boiled kettles of water, a plastic washing-up bowl and a jug.
Even when we first had central heating, it was run off a coal-fired back burner, so the same thing applied when the fire wasn't lit, or in summer.
So no need to pong! :rotfl:
There's always the barrel of water in the garden heated over a log fire, Japanese-style! :rotfl:
Edit.I think someone else somewhere else mentioned wipes. Baby wipes and toilet tissue wipes are also good stop gaps. Don't flush them down the loo, though!
Edit edit. Sorry Ivy, didn't mean to patronise, but I thought, just in case you didn't know. ....... type thing!
Out of interest, my recorder keeps a PIP of the programme being watched up in the top right corner while the Guide is up on the screen, so I thought you might have one like that.(I just lurve spiders!)

Thanks for that very good suggestion. What I did not mention was the other immersion heater that comes on at night time. That one still works, it turns out, so we now have a cylinder of hot water to last us the next 24 hours.
I still have to grapple with replacing an immersion heater that's had over 40 years to rust itself into place, but that can wait until the shops are open.
And Pyxis thanks for the washing suggestion. I can remember that sort of thing from my childhood, but we are very spoilt these days.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
