I was in the kitchen, making toast with my long-life loaf (55p and they have a lifespan of a week) .... and I saw the holiday homers arriving next door. A HUGE turkey, followed by bags of groceries, then arms of flower bouquets and a stack of presents.

Not only do 2nd homers do it "posher" at home, they then go away and repeat it, still outranking what the peasants next door achieve in their own homes.

    :)

Gutted. Planning a George Michael CDathon today. Plus visiting a few rels.

I discovered that he's an East Finchley boy. Born down the road from us.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The first portion of trifle's exciting because you're taking that first piece...

The last portion of trifle's exciting because you eat it straight from the plastic container with a spoon :P
  • 15 degrees and sunny here yesterday

    1 degree and snowing today

    Interesting.

For me the weather is better than yesterday. Not that I'm going out! The drawbridge is still up!

Something wrong with my eyes. For a moment there, I thought you suggested staying in an hotel.
I am quite happy to live off past date ys food...but I can't be doing with a cold house nor cold water to bathe in.

Thanks for that very good suggestion. What I did not mention was the other immersion heater that comes on at night time. That one still works, it turns out, so we now have a cylinder of hot water to last us the next 24 hours.

I still have to grapple with replacing an immersion heater that's had over 40 years to rust itself into place, but that can wait until the shops are open.

And Pyxis thanks for the washing suggestion. I can remember that sort of thing from my childhood, but we are very spoilt these days.
Are you sure it is not just half a tank - our aecond immersion does the top half of the tank. Can't the timer be over-ridden?
