If you want a larger HD, please ask. I'm sure I have something that will probably get binned otherwise.

Thanks, but I don't "do" hardware .... so I'd end up needing to find/pay for somebody to fit it ... and then we're back to that bit where I just need to "start again" and buy something that's got everything :)

Anyone used the google earth PC app recently - feels like a major privacy invasion to me, I can 'stand' in the back garden and look into the house

Isn't the app so memory intensive that you risk your whole machine locking up? That should put off the masses.

The reality is that it needs a bigger HD and more RAM. But, even then, I'm bombarded with warnings that there are no updates on XP and from Chrome that my browser is out of date. I also haven't been able to use Evernote locally for 1-2 years since it stopped working on XP.

So, all in all, it's about time to bite the bullet and just start from scratch to get all latest/newish stuff. Otherwise it'd probably end up all needing "something more" soon anyway.

If it were just a £50 job to get a new HD and RAM fitted and the OS would be fine, I'd do that.

The link I put in a page or so back was to the Dell outlet. There was an i3 tower with a terrabyte hard disk, W10 and a reasonable spec for about £280 all in. I think the reason that the link didn't work was because someone bought it. They say refurbished and some are, but all the ones that we've had (7 in total so far as we've bought from them for years) have been new and returned for whatever reason.

The cheapest one today inc VAT is well over £400, but it is worth checking back as the stock changes all the time. They do laptops too, but it sounded like a desktop you were looking for.

PN wants a very small form factor machine. So, that cuts down the choice dramatically.

Plus, the last one has more or less lasted 10 years. So it's a 10 year problem if she gets the new one wrong.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Given that it works on my PC that doesn't like having more than a dozen tabs open in firefox I would say the answer to that must be no.

It must have improved in recent times.

Whether its worth downloading in order to stand in people's back gardens....

A proper, professional firm of solicitors?
    ;)

Seriously though, I believe that once you've exhausted their own complaints procedure it's off to the Legal Ombudsman.
