Nice People Thread No. 15, a Cyber Summer

Woke up this morning, stared at Facebook and thought "what the heck can I say today?" ... it was quite late for posting really and I didn't really care/think anybody'd notice.
Just loaded it up, 2.5 hours later, expecting to see something like "5 people reached" - who knows, maybe it'd even say "10 people reached" - after all, yesterday's post managed to reach about 436 people.
And .... WOW ....
18 shares and 2,959 people reached
Can't be replicated though, I'd picked specific information for an event, bullet pointed 3 key items for my audience, chose the best photo that'd look different to those others would have chosen and then linked to the main event website page.
So, time-sensitive, relevant information - and enough people were awake and also thinking "!!!!!! can I say/do on Facebook this morning..." then "Oh, F me, that's handy, I'll share that"
But did that translate into "cash" as nobody's going to my website from that link .... and so no, it doesn't translate to cash, just exposure. Got 10 new likes (won't change the world will it!)
UPDATE: 1h15mins later and the figures show 20 shares and 3560 reached. My website stats show 1 click through from facebook- that's what happens when you link to somebody else's site and not your own though; 11 new likes though (in total, 1 in the last hour)
UPDATE: 9 hours after initial posting.... obviously it slowed down and tailed off. 22 shares, 4754 people reached.
£0 noticeable increase in income.
1 person clicked from facebook to my site for a squint.
13 new likes today.
I don't bother worrying/looking at these figures as a rule, just interested in £ to be honest ... but it is interesting to see posts that get shared and to mull how one might replicate that... but opportunities are few. But, I seized a random chance.0 -
In other news ... beach BBQ imminent ... not saying when. But I have given portable/easy food a thought and been out shopping this morning.
Ton of things I could make with what I've bought. Bought enough to feed a small army (well, half a shopping basket of things) .... all I need to get is some garlic and maybe one onion and that'll be it.
I've not been to one before, so unsure how BBQs cook, how good they are, etc - and I don't really eat much. Friend's providing the BBQ and burgers, rolls, blanket/chairs, cutlery, picnic plates, cups, her wine ... and probably a shed load of other stuff, so you do end up thinking "what on earth can I contribute that isn't just scoff overload"
Also, you're never sure if it'll turn out a bit nippy or damp, and/or not occur.0 -
I've finally given in and booked an appointment at my MPs surgery to discuss the issues I'm having.
I have an appointment with someone from a company in a second, so will see how that goes and go from there.
I'm trying to work out how I can be any more creative now with how to get things done, however am looking into one further option, as this would make the majority of any lending asset-backed, with around 20% on top to get the initial bits done.
That would, I'd have thought, made the entire thing more risky, but I've found out rather rapidly that when it comes down to specialist products being required, little sense is followed anyway.💙💛 💔0 -
Me too, I'd be sorry if the NP thread went, though I understand re Gen.:(
It's good to have both as options. So glad to have the other place. If any of us run into similar problems there's now a way of getting the message to percolate back. All but one of our staff, both management and drivers, have arrived with us via recommendation. However, we've run out of relatives, neighbours and friends and have to dip our toes into the murky world of online recruitment. It's scary..... I had one yesterday that in brief had to leave his last job after being threatened by Chinese Triads, had hitchhiked with the Yorkshie Ripper and had to get a bus to Istanbul to get some prescription medicine..... I'm almost scared to open e-mails:eek:
In good news, I had a speeding fine earlier in the year in a temporary zone. Turns out that there was an administrative error and it can;'t be enforced, so i get my £100.00 back and points removed
Did he/she get the job?!
Whilst I am glad you got your money back I'm not sure that is really the point - if you did the 'crime' and it wasn't just because of poor signage perhaps you should think about a charitable donation?I think....0 -

It's an interesting question whether you still need to inform your insurers. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

You are a nicer person than me. I don't speed around residential areas, I adjust speed where necessary, this was an empty dual carriageway with no workers on it and not adjacent to any houses and in good dry weather. I have trouble thinking of it as a crime. It's an interesting question whether you still need to inform your insurers.
Fleet insurance, not bothered till we get to 6 points.0 -

This is an issue I find really difficult. There are obvious intances where certain 'rules' (laws) are a catch all to try and prevent unsensible behaviour - your speed limit for roadworks when no workes are around' being a case in point. However once as an individual I start trying to selectively apply the rules then how can it not end up in anarchy?I think....0 -

There's an interesting parallel when you ask that question, to doping at the Olympics. You have athletes being banned because their team has systematically doped (while clearly there will be some clean Russian athletes who have done nothing wrong). Yet you also have people like Justin Gatlin who have served two drug bans yet will likely make the sprint finals against Usain Bolt. Similarly you have Lizzie Armitage who has been allowed back after missing three drugs test. She successfully argued that one of those wasn't fair as she was in a hotel and the hotel reception refused to give details of her room at 6am to the anti-doping officials. This led Mark Cavendish to say she has to take responsibility for her own actions, but it is crazy that you can end up being banned for missing tests, but able to compete when you've been proved to have doped.
Not saying Bugs is like Lizzie Armitage! But it is an interesting parallel and has IMO led to anarchy. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
