Me too. I've still been lurking but didn't know whether to ask or not. Firstly because I don't like inviting myself to places and secondly because I didn't know whether to take it as a sign to wean myself off the NPT/ MSE.

    ........

I wasn't sure whether it was ok to quote or not. How exciting! Have you already decided what comes next?

ETA Oops, should have waited until I'd read the rest of the thread before posting! good luck with it!

I'm trying to keep up with the old faces as they appear..and I still don't know what happened as I sent your invite on the 1st (still showing in my sent pm's).

The alternative is not designed as a replacement for here but rather a space where we can still converse with Gen and keep up with his news plus any other stuff people feel they want to post.

I did initially post up for people to contact me if they wanted the addy, pretty much because I knew I would forget people or there would be infrequent but valued visitors to this thread, unfortunately there was zero response so then it came down to my at times eeky memory  :rotfl:

It was/is a lovely thing to do to keep us together.

I just wish that the stuff hadn't gone down at all.

I'm joined up and just reading at the moment while I get my head around the way it looks. :o

I made a curry as I knew it was the thing most likely to lure the family from their beds. I think the kids will be up tonight.

Doozer managed to stay up until 9pm so he might be okay tomorrow. I slept between about 2.30-5, which I thought would get me to this evening, but am not feeling all that tired right now. It's 2.49pm in Canada. I probably just caught my nap at the tail end of what my body thinks was last night.

Well done on the new job Nikks.

When someone resigns, the gun is in their hand, so sensible employers will let them go asap and not hold them to being there longer than they want to.

A manager once insisted I work 3 months notice, I wanted to leave earlier. We settled on 6 weeks, when I had made it clear I could do this the nice way; complete agreed pieces of work, cover diaried events, pepare a handover, or the naughty way ;be unable to focus lack motivation and be cheesed off around customers and colleagues.

A new employer would not usually be impressed by leaving a former team "in the lurch" by going overnight, but will appreciate you negotiating an earlier exit.

Always try to leave on good terms, you never know when you may walk that way again, as your client, future colleague, employer.

We got back from Alaska (8 hours time difference) on Monday lunchtime. Managed not to sleep in the day but neither of us got much sleep Mon or Tues nights. Last night was a bit better. Managed to stay awake all day at work yesterday, luckily only a p/t day at work today.

Doozer managed an all night ordinary sleep! I fell asleep about 12.30am and woke up at 4.30am.

We did catch a glimpse of the Rocky Mountaineer as we were driving. Must have been around Banff or Lake Louise.

We covered 3030 kilometres. Vancouver, Kelowna, Golden, Jasper, Banff, Kelowna, Vancouver. The Icefields Parkway is a true wonder to behold. Stunning country.

    3 months seems excessive.

3 months is fairly common in "important jobs" - within a research based facility it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect all contracts to include it by default.

Imagine if you'd invested £20+ million over 3-5 years in researching something - and 3 months before the conclusion/results and potential commercially moving it forward your main compiler of the reports, the lead scientist, just left!

It's not just a job people do, there's all the historical stuff they have in their head of what happened, results obtained along the way, etc etc that they bring to the final table. Somebody who'd been at all the meetings, had all the discussions, and had spent the last 1-2 years compiling their findings in their head and working out what's what.

Ditto for important/reliable members of the team that are doing that research for that lead scientist to come to a conclusion from.

On the other hand .... if your role is simply to crumble biscuits and analyse the structure of them after they've been dunked in tea, it's not so crucial.

So, is Nikk important .... or a biscuit crusher?
