Not joining the "2' above the ground club" I hope (like Mile High Club, but for people with smaller budgets) :)

    Maybe!

Or I might be working in Argos over Christmas. (Also in reply to Doozergirl) Have verbally accepted another job but not signed and sealed yet. I have a 3 month notice period (will see if I can negotiate) and needed to get the clock ticking (as much for the relief of being able to be open as anything). Hopefully the calculated risk will pay off  but if not I'm sure I'll work something out...

If it does all go to plan I might see Michaels on the train...

Best news I have had all week. :)

We have invested a lot of effort in a German student we had for the last 10 days. At 10pm last night her mum WhatsApp us to say she is homesick and will spend the last 3 days of her stay in England with a family friend. She had seemed happy enough and this was 100% sudden and unexpected and we are now left wondering what the problem was. Most unsettling.
    I think....

Me too. I've still been lurking but didn't know whether to ask or not. Firstly because I don't like inviting myself to places and secondly because I didn't know whether to take it as a sign to wean myself off the NPT/ MSE.

In other news, I resigned from my job this afternoon!
my daughter had to resign here job recently and she loved the work but got bullied out basically and she does not need that type of working conditions. She has got a new job in September which hopefully will work out as its not something she has done before....she was such a brill hairdresser but gave that up many years ago now and does not seems inclined to follow that path...
good luck in your next job I know its tough out there these days. BW Dianne

Just the usual: foreign people, foreign food, foreign TV and not feeling able to "slob about/do what she likes/get waited on hand and foot" like she's used to and like she's sure a family friend will do.

Living with strangers isn't always nice, no matter how nice they are - they either do stuff you don't understand/like, or live differently to you - and, as a foreigner, you can feel 'trapped' in your own world of not being able to communicate "at will" the same way and about the same things as you're used to ... can't even walk into a shop and buy your favourite chocolate bar.

    It's not you.
    It's not them.
It's just the way some people don't really like THAT much change.

It's just not "home" and not even "like home".

I think we should be wary of killing this thread on here. It seems a shame to have something for so long and to cut the nose to spite the face. As much as I am sad about Generali, if he is allowed back (again, sigh), we might be better to muddle along. Dunno.

And I wasn't genuinely upset at not having been invited, but there are valued NP that may not post so much and be totally overlooked. I'm sure there are lurkers that might feel a part of the thread too.

Wow, that's news from you! Do you have an onward plan for work or did you just walk?! I sensed rather many posts from you about stress there etc. Better to cut ties?

I'm trying to keep up with the old faces as they appear..and I still don't know what happened as I sent your invite on the 1st (still showing in my sent pm's).

The alternative is not designed as a replacement for here but rather a space where we can still converse with Gen and keep up with his news plus any other stuff people feel they want to post.

I did initially post up for people to contact me if they wanted the addy, pretty much because I knew I would forget people or there would be infrequent but valued visitors to this thread, unfortunately there was zero response so then it came down to my at times eeky memory  :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Those notice periods can be flexible if needs must. As long as you come over as being reasonable there is little they can do to prevent you walking at some point. 3 months seems excessive.

It may have always been planned that way. Or you invested too much effort and the student wants some chill time.

    PN's explanation is most likely.

I went on a French exchange when I was 14 and was way too immature and my French was pants. I just couldn't cope with the host family, even though they were lovely, and hated going back there every day. They couldn't do anything right.

The total irony is that we became great friends and I went and stayed there another couple of times and only lost touch when she married. I was more grown up by the time I was 17. Sometimes exchanges aren't the right thing for the person at the age and maturity.

Will you still get paid? I do hope so.
