I haven't posted here much recently, but due to recent events :(, and the Forum heading steadily downhill, I'm taking a break from it for the rest of the Summer.

I'm finding it increasingly hard to summon any enthusiasm to post on the economy threads as the only topics of discussion seem to be continuing to 'fight' the EU and Scottish referendums. Lots of heat and no light.

However it doesn't stop me from reading and posting on the NP thread.

Hurry back, your dry sense of humour will be missed.
    I think....

I would suspect that you probebly brake, accelerate and corner less harshly than the aveage driver so your tyres are likely to last onlger than his estimate.
They told me in the MoT in 2015 they were low.
They told me in the MoT in 2016 they were low.
That's why I rushed to get them checked before setting out on my regular round trip .... I was surprised he didn't say "OMG ILLEGAL!" :)

But yes, I do drive carefully. Properly, not a dodderer... but not accelerating/braking madly.

However as Lydia would tell you if she was around, just because your tyres are legal doesn't mean they are as safe as they could be so pehaps change them anyway if they are less tan 3mm rather than waiting for the 1.6 of the law.
Yeah, I do actually plan to do it this week.

I blame gentrification .... only happy clappy, smiling, middle class faces allowed. No negative talk....

A sprinkling of middle class standard wording helps to be skimmed over too .... describe everything as if it's a cupcake ... for sale on a cutesy Etsy page and it's approved :)

A car crash is: a delightful shunty poo, so glad my eco-footprint was saved!!

Someone on DT was PPR'd just recently and was told it was because of "Moderate language".....:D

I am often staggered (when the DM lazy journos pick up on their threads to create clickbait for their own site) ... by Mumsnot and how they use EVERY bad word known to mankind .... even in their titles!

And to think they're mothers! Badduns I say ... badduns.

I agree - I don't think I'd like to be in the company of many of them if they speak the way they write on there.
I remember reading an "AIBU?" post where a mother was saying one of her 14 y.o. daughter's classmates had called her the c-word for turning up at a party in the same dress. Was the mother unreasonable to be upset about this?

"Oh, I wouldn't worry, they're all quite sweary at each other all the time at that age, aren't they?" was one breezy response.

To which I can only say, if that's really the case, then things have come to a pretty pass, as they used to say :(

I heard a primary school aged lad swearing like a trooper as he sailed past on his skateboard the other day. And to think when my DDs were that age there was shock and horror in the playground if somebody said "bum"

My boys are not allowed to swear in front of me even at the age of 22, 19 and 18. In fact youngest thinks swearing is a waste of English and refuses to do it, I think the most extreme word he has allowed himself to say is bloody and he gets very annoyed when others swear, including me!

I feel he is going to be shocked and annoyed a lot of the time when he goes to uni as not only the swearing will rise his ire but so will the drinking which he also thinks is a waste of time, energy and money!:rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I very much dislike swearing and can not understand the sort of comedy where you use rude words for a woman's bits and it is considered hilarious.

However I do think children/teenages go through various phases where it is 'cool' to swear a lot then they get a bit older, realise they sound like immature idiots and grow out of it.

That's simple - like the writers/performers who aren't talented enough to do comedy without the swearing.

It's not an excuse for having a poor vocabulary but I have no problems with a well placed swear word.

It seems prudish to me that the words are 'naughty' because they refer to 'naughty' things like sex.

If they weren't considered naughty, they wouldn't be nearly so exciting. It's societal script that says that something isn't acceptable, for no real reason.

I mean, I can call my genitals whatever I want to. It's not for anyone to say that one word is more ridiculous than another.

My boys don't swear in front of me, but they do in front of their friends, they also text acronyms for swear words. I find it amusing that they use the correct punctuation in their texts even when the words are inappropriate. (eg !!!!!!?)
