Apparently she has ruled herself out of the PM candidacy, which I thought was a shame. But maybe I just caught her on a good day?
She's all that there is of the Scottish Tory party as far as I know. She appears to have campaigned without using the name Conservative, and purely on the prospect of being opposition, not government. She's got the personality and charisma for the job. Never been in government to my knowledge.chewmylegoff wrote: »She isn't an MP so it would be pretty tricky for her to be PM, I think.
You don't have to be an MP to be PM I think. But it's ages since there was a non-Commons PM.

1963 - The Earl of Home. He was appointed to replace the ill Macmillan and renounced his Earldom and lesser peerages 4 days later to become Sir Alec Douglas-Home. 20 days after that he won the Kinross & West Perthshire byelection to become an MP - so for 20 days he was PM but neither a member of the House of Lords nor the House of Commons.
Prior to that it was the Marquess of Salisbury in 1902.0 -

Sorry, but :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Gutted for him!
To be fair, when we were having the Scottish Referendum, I was massively surprised that it could be won by a majority of one vote. It seems to me that such a stupendously important decision should not rest on such a small margin. I was similarly worried about our recent stupendous event.
As has been said before, voting in a political party for five years is a weeny bit different from splitting from the UK or splitting from the EU.(I just lurve spiders!)

That kind of .... feels a "bit wrong" doesn't it.
It's about choice and ease. And feeling a part of a community too. Not about not wanting to be here, but to easily be anywhere.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe there's a fear that he would actually be quite popular? He managed a second term in London and that's an awful lot of voters to please.
He gained a lot of votes in our borough because he was, or claimed to be, against a new Thames Crossing which would bring lots more heavy traffic down residential roads that are already pretty busy.
Then he changed his mind. We weren't impressed.
He has charisma though. But I don't think he'd be the best choice for PM. I'd like Andrea Leadsom, but as she's an economist perhaps she'd be better as Chancellor. Perhaps Theresa (sp?) May.0 -

Spirit, I had an Irish grandpa. Can I ask, what are the pitfalls/catches (if any) of having dual nationality with an Irish passport?
This is where we need NDG. A real expert.
My belief is that there is not pitfall dual uk/irish citizebship as UK recognises dual. Commonsense caveat is to establish if you have protection of uk when you are in Ireland. I havent looked at that, nor what it is worth.0 -
