I was very impressed with Ruth Davidson during the EU debate on tv last week, I have to admit that I had not even heard of her before, but I have put that down to my ignorance. Apparently she has ruled herself out of the PM candidacy, which I thought was a shame. But maybe I just caught her on a good day?

She isn't an MP so it would be pretty tricky for her to be PM, I think.

That's not just you Pastures. You've nailed the first two and I would bet that less than 50% of the population, possibly significantly less, could name the leader of the Lib Dems.

I could - but only coz he's MP of the next constituency over from mine and he's been the most vociferous of all the local MPs about the flood damage repairs.

I couldn't name (m)any of the other Lib Dem MPs - and there's only IIRC seven of those.
I think Cleggy might be, not sure about Compo and Foggy though ;)

I agree, but only because she stands in Scotland, not because she isn't good enough. The fact that she is gay is interesting, I wonder if the UK is liberal enough to have a gay PM?

Has everyone seen the breaking news:

Nicola Sturgeon says MSPs at Holyrood could veto Brexit:

On the subject of gay MPs/ministers, Justine Greening came out yesterday at PRIDE. Good for her!

I was focussing more on thinking about EU in/out and not parties/individuals ... just listening to random bits and bobs by faceless people .... and choosing what I liked the sound of :)
Don't beleive anyone else who claims they did anyhting different from you. The majority vote with their 'tribe' - be it their party or theor social circle. Others like you try to get information on the issues they think are important, filter what they hear by how beleiveable it seems and try to trade off the varoius advantages and disadvantages to come up with a decision. Generali did the same thing just possibly included more info and weighted things in different ways. For example I suspect Generali values being able to live and work in Europe quite highly whereas it matters little to you so you and he could easily come to different conclusions.

Certainly there is no one correct answer than a super-smart person could get 'right'.

Apparently she could be made a member of the house of lords and then be PM from there. Same for David Milliband who apparently is joint favourite to be next labour leader.

So, some people voted on what "we" should choose here, based on the fact they didn't actually want to BE "here"?

That kind of .... feels a "bit wrong" doesn't it.

I would say it depends whether you see 'here' as being the UK or Europe....

I don't think it's necessarily that they don't want to be here!

Some people will be working abroad on contracts for anything from 1-5 or more years. Others might have seen a niche in a market in another country that is full here. Others might have taken opportunities that aren't available here, or not so lucrative. Because of the freedom of movement thing, it has been very easy to do that......just like moving from one part of Britain to another to take advantage of job opportunities.
Others might be abroad knowing that it is temporary, for all sorts of other reasons, but always intending to return.

Remember that the vote wasn't available to people who've been expats for 15 years or more.
