Sorry, one more thing.. My business partner also voted out and was campaigning for it. His views v similar to yours bugs... wants smaller state, more sovereignty (ties into Michaels view) less dictating from Brussels as to how we do business, more trade, less legislation...

I don't think either in or out is homogeneous. I also think that there is a continuum of views rather than two distinct camps and once we get our heads round what has happened we'll need to do more to meet in the middle.

I voted because "you have to really". Else you get beaten down in any discussion as "well, you didn't vote, so butt out". :)

    And, it was important.

I tried to understand the discussions/programmes, but they didn't actually tell anything, they all wobbled on about stuff I had no idea about and nothing was ever stated, fact, declared, etc.

But, you have to vote on something .... so I did.

I don't want to say which reasons I voted for as I am not clever enough in 'debate' to be able to respond to anybody commenting on that. So, rather than ending up looking like an uneducated fool (they always tell us to stay quiet, rather than opening our mouth and removing all doubt) ... I'll just say "I did it because".

Viva precisely, I was Remain before Christmas, it was a slight shift to Leave.

In March I went with a friend to Jersey for four days and apropos of nothing she declared that anyone who was voting leave was a bigot and small minded. When I said I was voting out, she paused and blustered, but crucially neither retracted, qualified nor apologised. To have a friend think like that of you when they know you aren't , is painful. We will not be as close as before, it can't be unsaid now.

I voted the way I did because EU and international trade is very important to our little town and because I know that trade, also realise just how much we import and how little comparitively we export and that any removal from a major market would bring extra costs when it comes to imports. Ok, I was much more a deep sea than a short sea bod but when you see the quantities involved and the charges for shipping etc between the two markets, you know it is not going to end well in the medium or possibly even the long term for our trade.

I am, quite surprisingly, a bigger world person. I have met some very interesting people over the years because of the career I had, worked side by side with a lot of them and their stories of the country they were born in brought those countries alive for me, opened my eyes to the fact that there are other places apart from the UK, something I fear I would have missed if free movement in the EU had not been present.

I have no idea if my parent's neighbours who are from Romania have fared since yesterday, I know that they were already thought of with distrust by some of the others in the street because of how some think of Romanians and this is despite them working very hard, being decent people and helpful neighbours.

I saw the most awful post on Facebook yesterday once the result was known and I really despair.....they were pretty much saying, ok we have voted, now to kick all those not born here out. They truly believed the result was a mandate for mass deportations and that all non British shouldn't be here and will have to go and if they don't go willingly, then they should be shown how to leave. That person may be a single voice but what if there are others who feel like that, I really do fear for the safety of those who look as if they don't 'belong' here.

Re the campaign, I didn't really take much notice of what was being said, I did my own research, tapped into my own knowledge of EU laws and our derogations and just worked it from there. So far, all that I have predicted for an eventuality of a leave result (and said privately to family members, I was too scared to say them on here in case I was thought stupid), have come to fruition. I am now keeping my fingers crossed that I was spectacularly wrong and that what we are experiencing now is just wobbles and things will turn out just fine but after reading that our credit rating has been changed to negative by Moody's as of this morning, I am not so sure.

I am very fond of Martin Rowson's cartoons in The Grauniad, today's one is a real humdinger! I'm fighting my way through at least some of the comments, as there are some very perceptive posters alongside the various trolls.

There's a petition on the Parliament Petition site that is proving very popular, so much so that it crashed the website yesterday evening! Currently at 821,124 signatures.

My parents were leavers, I would never ever dare say to them that they are small minded and bigots and would certainly never think of them like that.

Our family was split in our opinion and it led to some pretty interesting debates between us all (not nasty debates, healthy debates). My parents, brother, brother in law and the eldest niece were leavers, me and my boys were remainers but the most surprising one for me was finding out that my sister was a remainer too. None of us have any idea how my sister in law voted, my brother was a staunch leaver, very vocal about it, so if she was a remainer, she would have kept quiet about it for a quiet life!

In the olden days .... all these politicians/similar would've been spending time thinking about what to do next and having discussions etc.

Instead, they're being perpetually dragged into studios and in front of cameras to give their opinion on something or another. And, no doubt, having to work hard at keeping their twitter/facebook feeds up to date and comments responded to.

Lets hope the government makes the funding up. It's perfectly possible that it will be the case, as a lot of enterprise zones (which the government is supportive of) are EU funded, as are other areas the government is generally happy with.

It is very unlikely, they struggled before the EU supported them with finances and only met closed doors and now with bigger financial worries for the government, they would be pretty much at the bottom of the list.

I have friends here on EU passports, married to UK citizens, who are now thinking they should play safe and acquire UK nationality that they have never felt the need for before.

FWIW, I don't think anyone will be sent back. I have friends who came to the UK based on commonwealth connections and they haven't been turfed out when the links between countries become removed.
