I studied it. Really easy to learn, much easier than say French, but learning it also made learning French easier.

Ours was about an entire Roman family, including the paid servants and the slaves - I can't even remember the characters' names, let alone the plot - although, as far as I can recall it didn't include "Et tu Brute", nor "Veni, vide, vice".

    The Cambridge Latin books?

Caecilius, Metella and Quintus along with Grumio. Grumio est in culina. Grumio est ebrius. Again.

We didn't do Latin at our schools....however, at my primary school, they started teaching French when we were 6 or 7 so by the time I went to high school, I was pretty much fluent in it.

Unfortunately we all had to start at the beginning again and I consequently switched off, don't think they ever did reach where we had left off in primary school and that was even when we did the O level (in my madness, I chose French as one of my options).

Beggered if I can remember half of it now although on our trips to France, it has only taken an hour or so for it all to flood back but that was before the fatigue and brain fogs started to have an impact on me...I couldn't even remember English yesterday morning on the phone!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    We used this one.

Don't remember the characters in it. Had to study the Aeneid for the Higher.

Changing the subject a bit (I thought of this after zag mentioned the Aenid)... it never ceases to amaze me how much of a mark Shakespeare made on the world.

So many schools around the world study Shakespare in translation, and his works were commonly taken in the belongings of the early settlers in the new world.. and no doubt would have seen totally modern.

Many libraries have Shakespeare 400 displays up, but its easy to forget the impact he's had away from these shores.

Just watching Michael Portillo on one of his Great Train Journeys, which are fascinating!
I knew he was half-Spanish, but decided to google his biography.
To my great surprise, I learned that he is married! I always thought he was gay!
(Ok ok, I know being married doesn't preclude you from being gay or bi, but he always struck me as being single, too!)
(Ok ok, I know that being married, technically, doesn't preclude you from living alone, but....) :rotfl:

I must admit, for a long time I've really enjoyed his broadcasts. He's a much better broadcaster than politician, IMO. I think he is destined to become a 'treasure', as he has such a nice, welcoming, kind, inclusive approach. Probably why he wouldn't make a good politician! :rotfl:

It was always rumoured that he and Peter Lilley had been caught en-flagrant but that they had an injunction or similar but that it stopped their political careers from ever going any further.

He has been married a long time. Years ago he admitted to having gay encounters in his youth.

My school never taught us Latin. As welsh was a compulsory part of the curriculum,, one (nearly) dead language was considered enough. I think it has probably been revived since its near death, my school didn't try hard enough to kill it off. Welsh lessons were either text books stood on the desk while you got on with other work, or some effort to help us understand welsh history and culture. The lowest ability class used to spend their welsh lessons drawing pictures of dragons. We probably had more pictures of dragons per classroom wall than any other public building in the country.

DG got in before me about caecilius being in the forum.

DD!s school have offered to instigate Latin lessons next term - for only £300 per year. I will talk to the finance about giving us a disccount seeing as we earn so little.
    I think....

Is this after school? Extra curricula? I can't believe they would charge for something to be included in normal lesson time.
