    I watch that
    I do that
    I thought that.

I've had the same thoughts, good as a presenter.

Having said that, after the joy of finding/watching a few episodes, he does get on your tits a bit with his "self satisfied air of tweeness" :)

I don't sense a self-satisfied air. He comes across as really genuinely interested.
If he isn't, then he's a jolly good actor! :T

Maybe I didn't use the right words. I'm short of words to explain things :)

It's not all the time, just some of the time when he's with the locals getting some story about a place where he is.

I find his "talking to random people who are on the train" a little awkward to watch .... I'm sure they just want to get on with their day and not have a camera thrust in their face and to have the Spanish Inquisition about their journey .... maybe the whole Inquisition thing's in the genes.

    :)

    That cracked me up! :rotfl:::rotfl::rotfl:

Just watching Michael Portillo on one of his Great Train Journeys, which are fascinating!

I must admit, for a long time I've really enjoyed his broadcasts. He's a much better broadcaster than politician, IMO. I think he is destined to become a 'treasure', as he has such a nice, welcoming, kind, inclusive approach. Probably why he wouldn't make a good politician! :rotfl:

I haven't watched any of them for quite some time - not because they weren't extremely good but because they were pushed out so frequently (one every evening each week IIRC) that I just couldn't keep up with them and kept running out of space on my PVR :(

As to his quality as a presenter, I'd rate him well up with that other "other occupation turned TV presenter", the late, great Fred Dibnah. Both have/had a passion for and a good knowledge of their subject and a way of putting it across which appeals to (most) viewers.

Another couple of presenters who I find very good (even though the subjects are their professional subjects I find that they put them across in a really appealing way) are Brian Cox (Astronomy) and Iain Stewart (Geology and Landscape) - apart from the fact that Brian always looks so terribly young, lucky s*d ;)

then I figured that's probably what tomorrow's for.

I like your style - why waste time today doing what could be put off until tomorrow? :rotfl:

That's only if you don't want to do it though, isn't it? :rotfl:

Depends on whether you subscribe to the view that tomorrow never comes - the day after today being tomorrow, but the day after tomorrow will, tomorrow, also be tomorrow :rotfl:

In terms of people on telly, I really like Mary Beard's style and her enthusiasm. I'd love to be able to wander round Rome, Pompeii or some other town from the empire (St Albans perhaps would be closer), rock up to a monument and read it.

So, what you mean is, never put off 'til yesterday what you can do tomorrow?

I have a GCSE in Latin, and honestly can't remember 99.9% of it.
