As I said in an earlier post, it isn't really much about the "noise", it's the unpredictability of where they'll be "up to mischief/nuisance" next and in what form.

I could endure DOOFing if I knew it was entirely limited to a garden. That's something one can learn to blot out some of the time.

Unpredictability ..... is the thing. Knowing and experiencing things they have done in the past, who knows what will happen next...

It's not noise, it's: people doing stuff that's annoying in an area they shouldn't be doing those things in, on a regular basis, with the added "who knows what's next" element.

It's not noise, it's not just me. The conversation seems to perpetually forget that it's not just noise and it's not just me.

My impression, from your posts, is that you are much more affected by this than other people.

I am very happy to use the board to vent and listen to others vent. Even the most well ment suggested solutions to my problems might make me feel uncomfortable though.

Does anyone else have the same miserable weather we have had for the last week or so, grey and cold with a nagging wind? :(
    I think....

It's been mostly grey and cooler and a little bit breezy ... with occasional blasts of sunshine (like right now) for 1-2 hours/day although it doesn't improve the temperature.

Indoors weather - or "perfect for a conservatory". People say you can't use them as they're too hot in summer, too cold in winter - but this is the sort of weather I think they'd be good for ... and there are many, many days like this, too cold to sit out ... too unpredictable to sit out .... so a conservatory would work a treat.

I've never actually joined the "conservatory owning classes" though :) I have been in one a couple of times though!

I think all leases/boundaries etc should become a part of all rental agreements, clearly laid out, so people know what's what everywhere.

Many will, say, move into flats, not ever being told they're not allowed to hang washing out and all sorts...

EAs could have a simple tick list of the usual covenants and clauses ... and LLs could easily enough provide 2 sheets of a plot's layout and a photocopy of the page in the deeds of covenants.

e.g. here you're not allowed to park any caravan/campervan in the parking spot, you're not allowed to run a business, bin locations have a specific spot marked on a plan/map. But if you'd rented you'd not know that.

    YES! Couldn't agree more.

In addition, any reputable letting agent would ensure that all the covenants and restrictions are included in the letting agreement. Even the basic letting agreement on a let-it-yourself basis has all the usual clauses that you would expect in it anyway.

I have lived in one rented flat, four rented houses and a house that was tied to LNE's job. I have no recollection of ever being given this kind of information by the landlord or letting agent. I do remember, as I posted recently, choosing a house that had space for our caravan on the drive, only to be told by the neighbour, AFTER we moved in, that there was a covenant saying we couldn't.

I think PN is happiest when she doesn't feel obliged to interact with strangers. Living in your own house is far more private than a flat, where you would be at risk of noise from above and below, before you have to set foot in the communal paths to the front door etc.

Yes, this is the impression I get of PN too. Even with the DOOFing she seems much happier now than she was when she was lodging in a room in somebody else's house, for example. I am so pleased for her that whatever's happening to her outside space these days, at least her inside space is inviolable. :)

I have one - it was already part of my house when I bought it. I love it in the summer - I can enjoy sitting in the sun even when it is too windy to feel warm enough outside. When the weather is really hot I open its door and all its windows to get a through draught, and it's not too hot for me, although many people would disagree. I prefer a higher ambient temperature than many people.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

michaels I agree about the weather. I could really do with some warm sunshine.

I prefer a higher ambient temperature too Lydia - our thermostat is set at 21 degrees, which in theory is fine, but I'm much more comfortable when it's at 22, which in turn is uncomfortably warm for OH! Can't win.

Mostly a nippy start to the day, then pleasantly warm to verging on darned hot up here in South Cumbria.
Rather windy until a couple of days ago, but it was a pleasant (apart from stopping me doing my workshop roof that is), warmish wind.

I don't have to negotiate with anyone about the temperature in my house! I have the thermostat set to 22.5, and my kids turn off the radiators in their rooms.

At work, however, I am usually just getting to a comfortable temperature when the men start opening windows.

I think this weather is pleasant for long walks without worrying about overheating.

We were in Manchester at the weekend and the sun was shining!

I've never had a conservatory but would love one of these

That's nice... but you pay extra for "nice".

It's also limited to its intended functionality - it's to sit in, with or without others.... so not dual purpose like spreading out during a gathering/dispersing 4-6 people to another space, or tossing loads of stuff in there to sort it all out, or painting small random tables because you thought you might be good at shabby chic (before realising you're just an expert in super tat), or somewhere handy to put stuff that you've put on freecycle as you don't want "strangers" in the house...

For my money .... I'd want/need space to be more flexible.

Oh buggah, that's me, isn't it! Somebody posts a problem, and I automatically look for a solution. That one is rejected, and I'll look for another.

Honestly, my personality type is Adviser. I just can't help it! Sorry, PN.

And thanks for pulling me up, Michaels. Don't hesitate in future. :)
