I awoke again, a bit later - another dream, but I didn't remember the 2nd one and I didn't have enough alertness to wake up and post here. After that I had a restless night and was up by 6am this morning feeling rough/groggy but I couldn't have slept again.
Poor sleep patterns have plagued me throughout life; it's been tough, over the years, to then have to drag myself out of bed and "into smart clothes" to then drive to work and be alert all day. It's made me dread work and added more stress/anxiety to a day.
If somebody at work's not slept well, you might perceive them as being either a secret alcoholic, all-night party animal on the quiet, or simply lazy/idle and disinterested... when in fact, it's out of their control to be alert/productive every morning. It's one of the reasons I'd have always preferred to work close to home as it then lessens the danger of the zombie-commute... driving 20-50 miles like this in the next hour wouldn't motivate me right now. Ideally a job that's walkable, where the biggest danger I could be would be stumbling off a kerb and stubbing my toe.0 -
I hope you get a better night's sleep tonight PN.
I love those dreams where you can fly, brilliant. Anyone else pick up where they left off on the dream from the night before? Hope that makes sense.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Another thing about being short .... internal door handles.
I just heard a banging and wasn't sure if it came from the builders next door, or if some delivery driver/postman was trying to attract my attention by banging on my kitchen window ...so I popped through to the kitchen - and promptly had the door handle slide into my T-shirt sleeve and halt me.
This happens quite often, making walking through doors carrying things a bit tricky. I smashed an entire (empty thank god) dinner plate once walking from the living room to the kitchen; I was halted, let go and the plate kept moving.
The door handle goes up your T shirt sleeve - and that's it, you're yanked back.
My interior door handles are the same height as my elbow. During daytime it's rare any door's closed, I only close the living room door in the evenings to prevent draughts/heat-loss. The rest of the time all doors are a bit open, or fully open.
I think the only solution, if one requires lever-style door handles (as opposed to knobs) would be for the lever to point up/down rather than left/right.0 -
Interior doors are cheap as chips. If it is a big problem, you could have new doors with lower handles. Maybe get this done along with any other minor tweaks while you have builders on site doing the extension.
New doors can be picked up for about £20 each, plus you probably won't need many. If the problem is downstairs, because that's where you spend the most time, then you can leave upstairs as is.
I'd ask if they can change your ceiling roses to standard ones too. They are only a couple of quid each. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

You're not alone with being 'arrested' by door handles! It happens to me too! Sometimes it's pockets that get caught!
Most of my doors have knobs, but it's the porch and back doors that can catch me! Usually when I've got my hands full with stuff.
What's the problem with the ceiling roses?(I just lurve spiders!)

The labour involved in trimming, hanging, prepping for locks and handles and then decorating a door isn't so cheap!
Best thing would be to replace with oval knobs that are still relatively easy to grip.
If it's dire, then move the handles and fill the holes left in the exisitng door.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Anyone (Viva?) know what the equivalent of Night Nurse is in Australia?

Given the time differential, it's probably Day Nurse.

Once work's done there'll only be one door downstairs of any "note".
Ceiling roses? What's wrong about ceiling roses? I've never noticed any to be honest.... I never look up there.0 -
