Most people can see past the eye-candy and see Windows 10 for what it is -- a cumbersome, unconfigurable, bloated OS, with a horrendous UI and major privacy concerns.

I bet you said the same about Windows 7.

Keep it up RR, even Bernie Madoff was entitled to a defence, you seem to have chosen a difficult case as well ;)

You mean Bernie wasn't guilty? I thought not all along....

Shame there's always some that don't understand or are incapable of a bit of banter.

I am no fan of the terminology companies like Microsoft, Google and Apple have conditioned everyone to use and think, especially that new = upgrade.

I turn on my Windows 7 PC and in a few seconds I get a desktop with some icons on for the programs I use to do productive things, if I want to use a program I click on its icon and it opens and I do something useful. If I click print paper comes out the printer and if a program needs something from the internet it gets it. That's all I need it to do and I like doing it like that. Then I switch it off.

How will Win 10 'upgrade' my experience? anything it adds will only get in the way of my process.

I am not saying its hasn't probably got features that make it an 'upgrade' for some users, but not everyone so it can't be generically labelled an upgrade.

Windows 10 will do all those things for more years, and more securely.

Windows 10 has improved memory management so should be less vulnerable to 'buffer overflow' attacks, and Edge browser is supposedly pretty secure.

It can do these things without getting in the way of what you're trying to do.

So why couldn't MS do all that techie stuff but leave the actual user experience exactly the same as Windows 7? PC users don't want to compromise by having any kind of 'tablet' interface.

I think some of the user experience ('Aero') was supposedly in the name of power-saving. Personally (as someone who went straight from XP to 8) I find all the transparency stuff quite distracting when I do have to use Windows 7.

But what MS really want is to have one OS which works on tablets (and by all accounts they're selling lots of Surfaces) and phones, and traditional desktops. Also if people write a new-style Windows Store app that works in Windows 10, it works across all those things, which helps populate the sparse Windows Store, which I'm sure Microsoft would like very much.

Personally I don't really use the Store apps at all, although I do have a cheap Windows tablet and like that I can use it.

But 98% of the time I'm using old-fashioned Desktop apps on a conventional laptop and find I can navigate around Windows 8.x and 10 as quickly as in Windows 7.

Some of it is just a case of getting used to changes - for instance File Explorer and Task Manager are both different to Windows 7 but IMO better once you've got the hang of them.

If you still have XP it probably means you don't have one to end....
    :D:D

There was once a man called FRED246 who had his PCs running on Windows XP. Everything worked well. He was happy and had a good life. He used Chrome and AVG. He could spend the time not on his PC living life to the full.
One day some-one persuaded him he needed Windows 10. He bought a Windows 7 disc which could then be upgraded to Windows 10. He sat in front of his PC for hour after hour waiting for all the latest downloads. His life was now boring and sad. He accepted the upgrade to Windows 10. Fred could see light at the end of the tunnel.
He turned on his new Windows 10 PC. Looks good. Fred is happy. But then his screen went grey. It flashed multiple colours. Then a mish mash of colour all over the place. He hunted for the latest drivers. Windows 10 is not supported the website said.
He looked for drivers for his lovely network printer. Windows 10 is not supported. Buy a new printer it said.
Fred is now doing a clean install of Windows 7. In a few hours of more wasted time Fred may be able to use it.
Fred stayed on Windows XP because it worked and did everything he wanted. Fred still doesn't know why Windows 10 is supposed to be better. Fred prefers operating systems that work.

    OK Fred,
Sad that it didn't work for you on your machine.
At least you are moving from XP.
