Thinking about this, and I would be very surprised if they don't, considering all the nag screens for windows 7 and 8 users and the preparatory updates and downloads.
Any do you think once its past the free download time, all of a sudden Microsoft is going to stop the nagging and let windows 7 users rest in peace?

Some speculation here:

I suspect we won't find out until after the deadline has passed or just before it. Probably even Microsoft haven't made their minds up yet.0 -

Windows 7 is a dead man walking. It will go the same way as XP and the rest.
Yes there will always be people who refuse to let go for a variety of reasons and there's nothing wrong with that but support will end for 7.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Agree this will happen but do you know of any proposed date for 7 update service to stop? Have MS announced it yet? Just want to be prepared so I can make sure all my software (about which I was worried transiting from XP to 7) will work under 10, not to mention drivers for peripherals.
No I'm sorry I have no idea.
I'm not a Windows user, I worked with Oracle databases and in *nix support/development and use Linux machines.
I have a Mac as my day to day machine and I run Windows as a VM on it but only because I can, I don't really use it.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Even then I suspect they'll have there arms twisted to continue support to big organisations who want to stick with 7, just like they did with XP. I seem to recall that for non-corporate XP users there was some registry hack which allowed updates to continue after the supposed cut-off date. Hopefully the same will apply to 7.
I fully intend to keep 7 Ultimate on my main desktop for the next 5 years, hopefully longer.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

I had a 'corporate' laptop running Windows XP, but the sticker on the bottom said Windows 7 - so the corporate strategy was to run new hardware with an old OS.
But for the latest intel 'Skylake' hardware, Microsoft have already said they will only support Windows 10 on new computers, except for a small list of computers where they'll allow 7 or 8.1 until July next year.

That is, if you're a corporate and want to replace your hardware with something running the new Intel chips, you will no longer have the option to run Windows 7 or even 8.1.
So any corporate planning to buy new hardware and stick Windows 7 on it will have to change their strategy now (or at least by July 2017) well in advance of Windows 7 going out of support.0 -
I don't think business is as far behind as myth says it is....http://www.spiceworks.com/it-articles/windows-10-adoption/
As far as increasing the time for the free download goes, I don't think it will extend.
They will have enough people on it to keep up some momentum and will slowly starve the dinosaurs out.....;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Other bits and pieces are getting shut down losing support etc .Internet Explorer for one and probably many more for legacy Windows versions .0
