I didn't get on well going from 8 to 10, ran into what seems to be a common bug so took it off and went to 8.1.

Hopefully in a few months when I try again it'll work this time!

If you still have XP it probably means you don't have one to end....

I reckon they may well extend the deadline 'due to such huge demand' (or in reality MS wanting to kill W7 and W8 sooner rather than later)

Does seem funny that people want their Android phone getting the latest OS as soon as possible but many don't want to lose W7 when given a free upgrade option.

If you're on Win8/8.1 then the upgrade shouldn't be too much of a shock as W10 looks and behaves in a similar (ie slightly schizophrenic) manner and coming from Win7 can be made easier using classic shell... the underlying operation isn't too hard to adjust to.

What I find irritating was the way some areas like 'system' have a certain new style look and others like 'control panel' are just old W7 type windows. It feels very much like 2 teams built W10 and then patched it together just before launch and no one noticed the slight differences.

They are going to get rid of the existing 'Control panel' eventually so didn't put anything into redeveloping it. A lot of it's functions are already duplicated within 'Settings'.

There are no more updates for Windows XP itself. The only new updates downloaded will be for Windows Defender.

You are only going to get opinions with that question......Mine is Yes.
The deed is done and it all went 99% smoothly. For those still thinking about it, remember to back up any important data just in case it temporarily or permanently disappears.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Glad it all went well....Plenty of tutorials on the web should you need to find your way around, but, it's pretty basic...;)

  • I upgraded to Windows 10 on 2 machines. I hate it so much, I ended up resetting my laptop to factory default Windows 7 and starting again. Can't do that with my desktop unless I re-install my old HDD - which I might just do!!
