I'm sure people might have 'gassy' days, but it sounds like it's blowing a gale in some people's houses.

    No.

I was once asked to share an office with a colleague. I refused on the grounds of his excessive flatulence. Apparently, so did several other people and a couple of weeks later he was moved to an office on his own

I read somewhere that every fart sends millions of little particles of poo floating around the room. Something for you botty burp enthusiasts to think about.

I suffer with a version of IBS and despite spending most of every day feeling gassy and bloated, I still believe it rude and disrespectful to pass wind or burp in front of others.

In fact, the sound of people burping makes me feel physically sick. I've been one mouthful into a meal before now and someone in the same restaurant/area has burped and I've left the rest of the meal.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Like I said, I despair for humanity.

Imagine having a relationship where you can't fart in front of your partner??

    Dear dear me.... :(

    I actually pity these people...

There's no need for pity, honest. It's not that I can't fart in front of my partner. I choose not to. He finds it unpleasant, so out of respect for his wishes (and the fact that I too find it unpleasant) I don't do it.

If you and yours don't have an issue with it fair enough. We do. But trust me; we don't need pity. Its a healthy happy accord- it doesn't stink.

I can only sneeze quietly if I have advance warning, if I can feel the sneeze coming on and have time to 'control' it. Unexpected sneezes are incredibly loud, for some reason my vocal chords engage and you can hear me across the room :D

I grew up in one of those households where nobody farted (I remember my brother being told off for doing so). I was also confined to a bedtime of 10pm even when 19 years old, etc. As a result I tend to be more laid back about such things, call me a rebel :D

Snap! I'm the same. Got some reason my sneezes are incredibly loud to the extent my husband could hear me from two stories up!

They're must definitely not put on. Some people do just sneeze loudly.

There's a girl at work who sometimes sits across from me. She sneezes REALLY loudly (she actually kind of yells, IYKWIM), with NO warning. I've never encountered that before! Makes me jump every time. Very annoying when there's total silence and I'm concentrating. It's like someone bursting a balloon. Hate hate hate it!

Not read much of the thread, but I don't think there is anything wrong with breaking wind in front of your partner. Shows you're at ease with one another.

That said, I would get pretty irked with someone who kept doing it, say 20 times a day, in front of me, or if it stunk bad. Then again, me and DH eat quite healthily and don't generally have smelly gas, or foul smelling number twos.

As a few people have said on here, I don't understand someone that will never ever break wind in front of their partner. Guess it must be down to their upbringing; or maybe they're just not monsters like the rest of us. :rotfl:
  • Suffer from IBS so pumping is something that happens a lot with me. Partner not allowed to fart, if she did, I'd probably break up with her.
