Ah, so its an £80 fine if you do not let them know about a SORN status and then higher if they think you have not 'de-sorned' through the correct channels.

    Thanks

Not quite, the Late Licensing Penalty is not a fine, it is an £80 penalty for failing to license a vehicle on expiry of the old one. A SORN is one of the exemptions that a licence is required.

Yes Rover driver, it's an out of court fee, if you go to court it can cost £1000.

Up to £2,500 in the case of a SORN vehicle on a public road.

Thanks for that Alan, feeling deflated now I wrongly assumed you could charge at least minimum wage for your efforts in defending yourself, if we go to court I might as well stump up for a solicitor and rack their costs up.

It states £1000 for not supplying the imformation requested, my mistake.

It's not, guest101 is confused as to what a "crime number" is.

Log number, crime number, makes no difference for this purpose.

Yes I meant a log number, blonde moment.

Its still a record of the facts as the OP sees it

    Victory!!
Just called DVLA again, clamping dept. To see where we're up to, the young lady got her manager and it seems an apology letter is on its way. They can't tell me what's gone wrong or why all this has happened.
But I can submit a claim for costs to the address on the letter so she tells me.
Letter will no doubt take 10 days or more as do most of theirs.

Clamping Department!! They want a bloody great clamp putting on their entire operation. Sodding leeches. I used to think TV Licensing was the biggest organisational parasite in the UK, but I'm now thinking DVLA.

Anyway, glad you got it sorted. Sting them for as much compo as you can get away with.

Somehow I think a couple of freephone calls on behalf of his son isn't much of a proveable loss.

If only it was as simple as a couple of freephone calls, as a rough guess it's taken about 16 hours of my time.
