Based on December's bill (my only one) I'd "only" be £6 better off but the gap would be larger in summer with their lower electric charge.
Does BG offer any online bonus on top of this? e.g. OVO give £5/month credit for maintaining the account online.
Also, what is their online interface like? How flexible is it with direct debits/refunds etc?
OVO restricts DDs to 3 times predicted amount (my predicted is currently £27/month -_-).
Their refunds are also restricted where you can only reclaim money above 2 months in-creditMortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0

Hi Redux
When moving it is completely optional if someone wishes to take the tariff with them or not. The exit fees are only applied for a change of provider - so if the tariff isn't the best option in your new region there's no obligation to take it.
How strong the British Gas tariff does vary not just regionally but also on your gas and elec usage combination. As you've found it isn't great for everyone (it is virtually impossible to create a single tariff that is). However based on Cheap Energy Club user profiles, it is the cheapest dual fuel option for the majority of our members.
Hope that makes sense.
Ok, thanks for clarifying about not being over-committed when moving home.
But as for the rest, I think we've had this assertion before.
It was previously speculated by staff, just as you are, that the usage here was not typical.
So I then changed to what I've seen given as typical average figures. This involved under 3% change to the gas consumption and no change to electricity. In other words this is a very typical average usage home.
When I said months ago that Scottish Power was cheaper than the so-called "cheaper than the cheapest" MSE CEC deal in nearly half of supply areas, a staff member here suddenly changed the subject to going on about bad customer service, which was not relevant here.
If the current CEC deal is in 12th place here, and previous ones came about 5th here, and other people above are sounding rather underwhelmed as they see cheaper elsewhere, how about re-approaching British Gas and say that in order for you to describe it more confidently as the cheapest, you'd like them to revisit the tariffs in the areas where it is not.

Be careful, Ovo's online discount is included in any price comparison. The only other discount allowed by OFGEM is dual fuel. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have switched to the BG Collective Dec 2016, and I have been advised it has gone through and my £30 switching fee has been paid. Now I am advised there is BG Collective Feb 2017 which should save me £60 a year based on figures. I also read that if I am moving from BG then there should be no exit fees, and I should also get the £30, switching fee again, is this true, or am I imagining this?Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -

Yes that's all correct.
I'm in a similar position and have switched see this post

Tonight I used the CEC website to perform a switch to the BG
Collective Fix February 2017 tariff, and the website confirmed the application was submitted. Very good so far.
Last time I applied for a switch from the CEC website, I immediately received a confirmation email from CEC, but so far tonight I've had nothing.
Also, last time I applied to switch, the CEC website was immediately 'aware' of my application and stated something like 'switch in progress' when I revisited my CEC account. This time, nothing like that's showing up so far.
Anyone else received a confirmation email? Is CEC just getting hammered so slow to issue confirmation emails etc.?0 -

I don't pay attention to the price comparison other than viewing the SC/unit rates. As I only have 1 month to go off I use the "averages" guesstimate which showed First Utility cheaper than the BG deal (not true when re-calculating last month's statement with the unit prices). Was just curious if BG offered an online discount with this switch alsoMortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0

We were on a fixed tariff with Scottish power that came to an end in June 2016 although I was unaware of it as apparently they only make you aware of this through the online system and do not actually send you a physical letter which personally I think should happen.
Anyway living in an old circa 1950 3 bed detached house not being very energy efficient we are larger users circa 22000Kwh gas & 8000Kwh Electric a year.
Having realized that our energy bill was out of control I invested in a loop energy monitor that was very easy to install and provides live monitoring of both our gas and electric usage to a multitude of devices PC tablet smartphone etc.
This has enabled me to monitor and start making some small savings coupled with this I arranged a switch to Daligas (gas) and OVO (electric) prior to hearing about the Energy clubs February collective switch.
Being concerned about two smallish companies particularly the wording in the Daligas contract that you ere responsible for the gas meter should it fail I pulled out.
Having run my figures through the comparison calculator the collective dual fuel switch for me works out cheaper than my original plan of using Daligas and OVO mainly as the electric is significantly cheaper.
My projected savings will be from an eye watering £239 / month with scottish powers std tariff to £120 / month on the collective switch with BG a saving of £1,428 !!! :rotfl:
Plus the possibility at some time of getting back some of the the £500 that I am in credit with Scottish power and continually request to increase my monthly payments.
So Many Thanks

Thanks for flagging this - this has been amended. The British Gas tariff definitely IS portable. You'd initially go onto a deemed contract with the previous owner's supplier, but can arrange to be moved onto this tariff by British Gas.
Hope that clears things up.
Thanks Dan that is fine.
Sorry should have mentioned. There is no previous supplier as it is new build.
This is only my second move in 40 years so do not know if that would still work with this then.
Just transfer suppliers when I move?
I checked all the other cheaper suppliers [EE FU etc] but some feedback worries me if this switch, then move upsets it all and I need some excellent customer support.
