Very disappointing, not what it was hyped up to be. I like others on here had emailed Zog and they replied today with their new tariffs. Zog are again the cheapest for me. Amazingly the electricity collective switch is more expensive for me than the one in September. Haven't energy prices fallen a tad since then..?

Disappointing thing now is that I missed out on the SSE deal that was going last week. It was even cheaper than Zog's new tariff, never mind this collective switch deal. Though I'd be reluctant to leave Zog anyway!

Hmm.. is it possible the CEC calculator has an error in it?

My brother who lives in the London area is currently on the iChoosr Collective Oct 15 tariff.

I was looking to change him to the new EON MSE online collective tariff.

The standing charge for both tariffs is 16.422p/day.

On his current tariff, the unit charge is 9.960p, on the new MSE tariff its 9.807p (all vat inc.)

The MSE website says their tariff is more expensive than his current one? (based on £15/month spend)

    I can't see how...

I think you must have done something wrong.

First of all, you'll get the best results if you use annual consumption in kWh. But as you didn't provide that info, I've worked with what you did provide.

    Using the existing tariff as:
Eon iChoosr Collective Oct 15 Paperless Billing
it does indeed have the unit rate you state and the same daily standing charge as the MSE Collective Feb 2016 Online (Eon) tariff. This MSE/Eon tariff has the unit charge you specify.

However the results I am shown is that the existing tariff will cost £180 p.a (12 x £15) and the MSE/Eon tariff will cost £178 p.a respresenting an annual save of £2

Perhaps you were looking at the E.ON Fixed 1 Year v19 Online tariff that has the same daily standing charge, but a unit cost of 10.027p per kWh, that would result in an oncost of £1 per year?

    Hi both

Not sure what's happened here. Our daily standing charges are the same across all regions/current tariffs. The only difference is whether or not a Monthly Direct Debit is in place. Customers paying this way have lower standing charges. The 16.422p per day you mention is the daily rate for payment with a Monthly Direct Debit. This leaves the price per kWh as the variable bit.

Are you looking at a total annual saving? If you are, it's best to do as footyguy says and pop in the usage in kWh rather than a cash amount. Also, as well as choosing lower standing charges, have you included things like discount for dual fuel and paperless billing? If not, these will affect the final total.

I'm speculating a lot here so sorry if I'm off beam.

Perhaps you should warn people likely to move to do a search for both addresses, given what I discovered, as above, the CEC deal in 12th place for this supply area.

    Hi Redux

When moving it is completely optional if someone wishes to take the tariff with them or not. The exit fees are only applied for a change of provider - so if the tariff isn't the best option in your new region there's no obligation to take it.

How strong the British Gas tariff does vary not just regionally but also on your gas and elec usage combination. As you've found it isn't great for everyone (it is virtually impossible to create a single tariff that is). However based on Cheap Energy Club user profiles, it is the cheapest dual fuel option for the majority of our members.

    Hope that makes sense.

Oh dear, as I predicted yesterday, looks like Zog have upped their daily standing charges again :(
(Not good for us low users)

I currently pay only 9.45p per day, now I see they have hiked it to 14.7p per day in their latest tariff.

I'll have to re-assess the sitution carefully when my existing contract finishes ... but I expect Zog will still be good value as long as they don't bring any further tariff revisions in the meantime.

Edit: Actually their Saturn tariff (no exit fees) now has the cheaper daily standing charge. So it might be Ebico for the summer and back to Zog Saturn for the winter.

Just to confirm, we checked this with Eon. As long as you have both fuels with Eon, it told us you'll retain the dual fuel discount even if you're on two separate tariffs.

I was tied into EON and £60 exit fee couldn't be beaten, so I just switched to v19 and updated CEC. After I read your post I looked at the EON electricity collective on CEC but it says it would cost me more money, despite the cheaper unit rate. I'm still within the 14 day cooloff for the v19 switch, so I don't know if I could switch the electricity yet anyway. Then again in the CEC results the v19 tariff shows up as being more expensive than I currently pay, so I'm a little confused. Maybe CEC doesn't realise that I would still get the discount?

there are two V19 tariffs, One is online and the other is not. Online one is cheaper. But it will depend on where you live if it will be cheaper than the EON MSE collective

Daft question time - does the 'dual fuel' discount simply mean having both gas and electric from the same provider. Are there any caveats to both needing to be on the same tariff? The British Gas deal does not save me enough to move away from E.on, but there is potential for the electricity collective switch to save me something.

    Thanks

Not a daft question at all smallgingerone. I've posted a couple of times about similar things on this thread today. All you need to pick up the dual fuel discount is take both the electricity and gas from us. It doesn't matter if they're on different tariffs. This discount only stops if one of the fuels is switched to another supplier.

If you're already with us, there are no exit fees for moving between E.ON tariffs. To go on the new MSE Collective Tariff with us, though, you'll need to apply through MSE's Cheap Energy Club. As it's a collective deal, it's not something we can do for you either over the phone or online.

    Hope this explains smallgingerone.

I had only seen the BG offering at the time - the E.On electric was too far down the list and is more expensive than the last collective.

No worries molerat. Thanks for letting me know.

But .......... it is only £7 dearer so should I go for it, grab the £15 and extend my fix (protection) for 4.5 months. Technically a net gain. Decisions, decisions ;)
