Wow, well all I can say to that is "thank goodness I live where I do and not where you do" :T

It's not so bad if you pay over 12 months - ours works out at £139 per month.

  • you really need to get in touch with a debt charity- cutting your groceries isn't going to pay off £22k debt and pay for a £42k op....

I will get in touch with them tomorrow. I will speak to the cc people tomorrow as well.

The operation will have to be put on hold. Hopefully I don't get any worse before I can afford to have it done. Just have to keep taking the tablets.
  • In your position I'd be looking at selling up to release the cash to pay off the debts and potentially pay for the procedure.

As someone asked earlier, what did your OH say about this op? Did he have any suggestions as to how to raise the funds?

I'll leave the debt advice to those wiser than me seeing as am also relatively new to the forum, op wise have you considered a teaching hospital funding arrangement? May be worth considering if you can find one for the procedure you'll need; as you then will be looking at either no cost or a significantly reduced cost in exchange for your case being used in research CoE application data etc, though do be aware there may be additional tests etc required as a result of this

According to your soa the mortgage must have about 6 years to run so depending on your ages could you not extend the term and use this saved money to pay your debts off ? Then finance your op by remortgaging in the knowledge you could afford to pay back 1 k a month .
