I need help!!! I don't know where to turn

I am in a really bad pickle with our finances. OH leaves all the finance things to me and I have made a right mess of it. I am up to my eyes in debt and now things are breaking in the house and we are having to replace them which means even more is being added to the credit card.

I appreciate any advise that can be given.

    Hi

Much more info needed on your overall circumstances

Could you put up your SOA?

In the meantime have you tried contacting any of the charities such as CAB, Nat Debtline or Stepchange?

There is always a solution, don't wait for things to get worse, get advice ASAP.

    Best Wishes
  • Also talk to your OH. Make sure they know the situation. Remember that no situation is one that you can't resolve.

Certainly a statement of affairs will help others give you some advice.

Hello. Welcome to the forum, nice people here, everything is fixable. I think the first thing you must do is to sit down with your OH with all the bits of paper you have regarding your incomings and outgoings, and talk about the problem. You need to know where your money is coming from and where it is going, every penny.

You could have a look at completing a Statement of Affairs

fill in as many boxes as you can. It will give you a better picture of your finances. If you are overspending on some areas you can cut down, to free up some money to pay off the card. It's a juggling act, don't worry if you have dropped some balls, you can pick them up again.
Take a look at the link and post it on here, and people will help.

Struggling, I hope you've been able to come back on the forum. Please don't think you are the first one to feel like this, many, many people on here 'have the t-shirt'. Getting the paperwork together for the SOA is often a hard step as you actually have to face reality. I cried for many days when I realised I had to seek help. In fact I tried several times and was finally introduced to stepchange. No matter how bad, it's improveable, don't be tempted by other options like payday loans or debt consolidation until you have sought proper advice.

I currently working through all the bills and receipts I can find on the house but unfortunately I threw a lot away.

I am not sure what to put down for my credit card debts. A couple of the cards have more that one interest rate on them. Do I list them all separately or just put the highest rate down on SOA?

Put down for now what you can find, and estimate the rest of it for now.

Look at any credit card bill from % information etc

Glad you have come back. It might seem an impossible task now, but keep chipping away at it bit by bit.

How long has your husband been in the job? Has he got wage slips? Write down the total he has earned after tax, take home pay, and divide it by how many months he has been working there. That will give you an average monthly income to put on the SOA.
    Keep trying and keep asking.

How do you pay the bills for the house? Do you pay by credit/debit card, if so these will show on your bank statement. Are bills paid by standing order, or do you pay by cheque, also on your statement. Might be a bit more difficult to trace if you pay with cash. You will have to estimate these by making a calculated guess. To work out utilities can you estimate an annual figure and divide by twelve. Do you pay a mortgage or rent? You should have figures for these. A rent book, or bank statement when the mortgage goes out.

Sorry I can't help you with interest rates on cards. Maybe someone else will come along who understands all that.
    Best of luck.
