The Christmas cakes look and smell ok despite Dh turning them off an hour early. I’d nipped out on Monday evening asking him to check them between half 7 and 8. He looked at them and turned the oven off thinking they looked ok. I came in at 8.30 and checked them - there was still raw mix in the skewer. Thankfully he’d left them in the oven. I turned it back on for another hour 😱😱. What that they say……about doing it yourself if you want a job doing well 😂😂
Had to smile about your hubby. Your last sentence is quite true....🤭

We had a lovely few days away. Although it’s only to my dds it felt like a holiday. My dd has taken her career in a different direction and been training, she has been building up a nice little business for a while so I had a free sample. I had a wonderful massage of my face and shoulders using hot stones - it was really relaxing. We all had tea together on Thursday and they headed off Friday. After dropping the gks at school we went into a town not far away. We had a mooch around Canterbury and the Christmas markets. We picked the girls from school and spent the rest of the weekend having walks in their seaside town, baking, playing games and watching films. Ds took the cooking on board (with a bit of help 😂😂😂😂 from the gks) We left yesterday at 5 when dd and sil came home - we made it in 5 hours which I think must be one of the best times yet. We decided everyone must have been watching the football. We didn’t even slow down passing through The Dartford Crossing which is definitely a first. I did spend some money on hot chocolates by the harbour but they were worth every penny.
I went to my U3A singing group this morning which I absolutely love - even though I can’t sing for toffee 😂😂 and my friend called in this afternoon, so a lovely day.
I still can’t get into the Christmas Spirit and haven’t put the decorations up in the house, we have them in the garden but haven’t actually switched them on yet.
The house was so cold though after being away for a few days. I’ve had the heating on most of the day. It’s just warming up now.

When we were at dds we were heading back to her house from the harbour which is up a fairly drawn out hill. I’d sent everyone except littlest gdd on ahead as t’other gdd needed the loo and Dh had a heavy bag. We were chatting and she wanted to know why I’d sent them ahead. I told her Grandma was getting to be an old lady and couldn’t walk any faster - her little legs were the same speed as mine 😂😂😂. She asked if I really was an old lady. I said I was getting older 😉Then she announced she knows all about old ladies. ‘First you’re a little girl, then a woman and a mummy. Then you get to be an old grandma lady.  THEN YOU SHRINK 😂😂😂 I’m sure she was weighing me up to see how much I was shrinking over the days 😂😂😂😂😂
Not planning on spending much today. I cooked a piece of salmon yesterday with roasted potatoes with chick peas, onion and garlic and I roasted broccoli too. There’s plenty of salmon left for the next couple of days. I just need some frozen peppers and I’ll make a turmeric and rice dish and throw some flaked salmon in at the end 👍

It’s a lot warmer in the house now RS. It’s surprising how cold it was and I’d only been having the heating on an hour mid morning and when Dh came home but being away and the weather going colder made it very cold. Worrying for those who are really struggling to pay as the less heating you have on the deeper the cold within the house making it harder to warm  😢 It really is a sad state of affairs for so many. I consider myself very lucky to have the choice of putting my heating on.

It is a vicious cycle. The colder you let a house get the harder, and more expensive, it is to get it warm again.

Our place is a devil to warm up if it drops too cold - it's the reason why if we're only away overnight in the colder weather I tend to just leave the heating as it is. Right with you about feeling fortunate to be able to afford to heat the place though - it annoys me the number of folk who "play at being poor"  when there are so many who really can't afford the simple stuff like a decent level of heating.

Glad you had a fab time away Milann!
