I’ve had a lovely afternoon with a friend. I was a tad worried about dinner as she had asked if I liked chilli mild or hot 😳 I don’t really do chilli so I said very mild as I’m a wuss 😂😂😂 It was very mild and very tasty 👍😁 She has the most adorable dog, then her ds came around with his dog - it was gorgeous, just like  a teddy bear and had a lovely nature. I’d love a dog…it might be what I need to get me out of the doldrums I’ve got myself into. I had a scroll through the local dogs home but they were all big dogs and lots of bulldog styled breeds and I only want a small one…..not a handbag one - Jack Russel small terrier type…..mmmm……time to do a bit of thinking. We’ve always said when we’d retired we’d get one…

    ETA.  I see you did!

Cairn or westie size would be fab.
Funnily enough I was just saying to my mum the other day that she said she would get a do0g when she retired.............

Getting a dog is a great idea. I’ve got a Jack Russell and she’s fabulous. Lots of energy but very robust, not had any health issues with mine and she’s 10 now. They’re usually quite long lived too, my friend’s JR lived to be 19. They are very loving too and like a cuddle.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

What about trying the dogs trust? I’m sure there’s the perfect dog out there waiting for a new mum like you 🥰

The perfect dog for you will find you when you are not looking for it. Ours did.

We always said that we wouldn't have a small dog if we got one but actually we quite like the fact that ours is quite small now. He doesn't really get in the way at all and he is the perfect size for the van (and he was the perfect size for the boat).

He doesn't shed hair either which is an added bonus.

If we ever did decide to get another dog we would certainly look into a similar type of cross breed very closely. I think a Schnoodle would be probably the closest we would get to Syd. Although the other half has recently hinted that he quite likes the Poodle.

I totally agree the right dog will find us 👍 Our last dog was a stray who was in our garden sheltering….we tried to find her owner but no joy (before t’internet). She was a Jack Russell cross and had a lovely nature, the previous was a wire fox terrier….again very laid back. It was the dogs trust website and local dogs home I was looking at. We’ve got a couple of trips out in the van over the next few weeks so will realistically have to leave searching until after that.

So today was a bit of a messy day. I went to sw this morning and had put the pound I’d lost last time back on 😏 I had a lovely time chatting though……but that’s just not the point.
I went for a cuppa with Dh and his U3A group then to get a little table to put the bbq in the van on, a trip to M&S for a tin of stewed steak to take with us for an easy meal followed by a trip to Aldi, B&M and Morrison’s. I wanted a can of whole carrots - something I rarely use but we found very useful to make a sort of stew in the van coupled with said stewed steak and tinned potatoes- quick, tasty and sw friendly. We couldn’t find said carrots anywhere….lots of sliced ones but Dh prefers whole ones 😏 ( I can’t talk as I prefer whole pickled beetroot to sliced 😁👍) I can only presume some canned veg have made a come back as it takes less fuel to heat up.
So £20 spent on various bits didn’t even know I needed…….

I have to have whole carrots if they are tinned too 😀 I think a lot of people are buying canned food because it's easier to cook and store. I prefer fresh veg but I'm buying some canned to keep in for those days when I can't get fresh. I'm not keen on frozen veg apart from peas so tend not to buy it. I do love to deep fry tinned potatoes 😍they aren't very healthy but they taste good 😀

Aside from the obvious beans and similar sweetcorn is about the only veg I buy tinned now - tend to stick to frozen aside from that.

Lovely idea to get a dog too - I believe there are vast numbers needing homed at the moment due to so many folk deciding a puppy would be a lovely idea during lockdown and forgetting that they wouldn’t always be at home all day. 😡 If we could give one a good home we defiwould be put realistically at some stage we’ll both be back to office working all the time  so it’s still a no-go for us.

We are lucky that our dog can go to work with the other half. We couldn't have him otherwise.
