Milann's life keeps getting in the way.......

We went out last night for a meal with dh U3A group. It was a Turkish meal again. We were a bit undecided whether to go or not but reasoned that since I was about the youngest there, everyone would be triple vaxed. There were 18 of us in a big room of our own. There was SO much food. We brought a doggie bag of meat home. It was a plate of mixed mezze, I was full before I started my main course of a Turkish mixed grill, which wasn’t served until nearly 10 o clock. The ukulele band played and a lot of the staff came to watch. It was a lovely evening but I haven’t been out until nearly midnight for a long time. I’m shattered. It shouldn’t have been too bad SW wise either, I volunteered to drive so stayed on Diet Coke and it was a lot of meat, rice and dips and I stayed away from the breads - nobody had desserts as we were so full.
Today the plan is for dh to clean his fish tank……I haven’t seen it looking so bad for a long time. I’m going to flat ice the Christmas cakes. I still can’t decide how to decorate them this year. Think I need to look for some inspiration.
After talk about libraries on a thread a while back. I rejoined yesterday. It’s next door to where I go for SW. There seems to be a fairly extensive online service that I’ll look into. I think it was Essex Hebridean mentioned a book called Life after Chocolate (I think that’s what it was called). I’m going to see if I can get it via the library 👍January spends - £587.583 -

I was really pleased with the hampers too. They came in about £8ish each ( can’t remember how much the teabags were - think it was about £5 and biscuits worked out 18p a packet) I was really pleased with the way they turned out. I’d have paid more than that in a shop.
I finished the Christmas cakes yesterday. I was pleased with them too. From not having a clue what to do…..I’d spotted an idea on line and changed it to make it easier and my style…..then just wanted to see the finished result. I can’t do the intricate icing I used to do….and I know the piping isn’t up to scratch but I can’t squeeze the piping bag as easily as I used to, since I had the op on my arm. But they’ve turned ok acceptable 👍 I’m so pleased I had my kitchen altered as I could sit and relax doing them. 1 for dh boss, 1 to take to dds with us and one for home 👍 I was going to make mince pies too but I’d had enough by then. I’ll make some today. I also want to dry some orange slices in sugar to decorate a gluten free almond and orange cake I’ll make on Thursday to take with us.
My nephew popped around yesterday so we exchanged presents and cards for his branch of the family.Ds came around too and we had a lazy tea of left over meat from the Turkish meal and a home made savoury rice. There was enough meat for 3 of us 😳👍 I’m expecting a friend popping in today so we might partake in a cheeky rose wine or three. I’ve not seen her for a while. Then at some point this week we need to pop around to see sil. I’m in two minds whether or not to ask her around - but last time I did that she didn’t turn up and didn’t bother letting us know after I’d done lots of food. Shes dh only close relative though…….I might just leave it as an open invitation and over to pick her up - that way it’s up to her. I need to do some food shopping this week. I’m a bit gutted I’ve missed some of the pre Christmas offers on meat as my freezer has been jam packed - I’ve got a fair bit of ds food from his freezer which has broken and he’s expecting it to be repaired once they get a new part delivered…..hopefully Tuesday. Im planning a cleaning day on Monday or Tuesday……then that’s me done. If the worse comes to the worse I’ll go shopping when we come back after Christmas. But before I do anything else I need to get my bum off the chair and get dressed. I’ve cut dh hair this morning and made a lovely big breakfast which I’ve eaten watching last nights Strictly. I’m still torn who I want to win…..I think I’m wanting Rose to win but did love the fellas Pirate dance…..decisions, decisions….not that I can do anything above it it now.January spends - £587.582 -
Know what you mean about SIL, mine has just deleted me from her life after MIL past away, hasn’t bothered much family at all, occasionally will reply to DH text. Today he has gone to see her and invite her for Boxing Day. I don’t want to sound awful but I hope she doesn’t come. Boxing Day has always been the day I relax after all the lead up to Xmas and the day itself. Xx:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.001

I know just where you’re coming from amber. I do have a lovely sister in law who is my brothers wife and one that was just like a sister - she’d been in my life since I was 3 - until she passed away, my other brothers wife……but this one sister in law has driven me mad since before we got married 43 years ago. We ended up arguing on my wedding day 😳 I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone like her 😳😳 Nothing she says or does surprises me. If it was just me I wouldn’t bother at all, but she is dh only relative so I occasionally visit and bite my tongue for his sake.January spends - £587.584

I only have one SIL, Mr SA’s sister, she drives me nuts too. We rarely see her, she rings Mr SA every day but never comes to see him despite only living 5 miles away. When Mr SA was very poorly she rang me to tell me she would no longer support me as it was too stressful for her - her own brother and I wouldn’t mind but she gave the bare minimum support anyway 😡I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1
