I used my gym membership this morning for the 1st time in ages. I managed 15 minutes in the pool followed by a stint in the jacuzzi. Not much but I’m shattered now. Shows I made the right decision I think…..I’m still doubting myself.
I’m determined today will be a NSD as I’ve not managed many this month.

  • Congratulations on having your early retirement approved.  Sorry they were so insensitive in their correspondence with you. I think sometimes these HR people forget that actual people are involved and all the emotions that go with them and especially as your health has suffered.  Take some time to get to grips with your new lifestyle and once your finances are sorted I am sure you will feel a lot happier.  How many years until state pension?

Glad you used your gym membership.  My gym/leisure club is a lifesaver in the winter when I cannot get out and about  coastal walking and cycling like I can in the nicer weather.

It’s been a bit of a surreal day today. I posted on FB that it was the first day of retirement and I’ve had some lovely messages both public and private from old work colleagues and parents of some children who are now adults and their parents became rl friends. It made me realise how sad it is that I never got to say goodbye and finish work properly. But it is what it is. I had my swim but I’ve not really settled to anything….don’t know why because I’ve been off work 14 months and usually amuse myself quite happily. It’s probably because dh had to work a full week and the realisation that that is it….
    I managed my NSD

Yes, it's bitter sweet I imagine & not how you would ever imagine things finishing up.

No - I never imagined it this way…..I’ll put it behind me in a day or so and begin to plan and enjoy things.

I suppose it’s that end of an era feeling. It’ll soon pass and you’ll settle in to being officially retired. One of my friends retired early after being messed about at work and has never looked back after the initial upset. A lot of my colleagues have retired during the pandemic and have been deprived of a proper send off, it’s such a shame.
