I don't find 'extra items' on my receipt either. I do check because I have found that that especially with special offers the PLU the operator keys in is wrong, and the wrong item/price comes up. but apart from that, I find them both fast and accurate.

No, nor me. When I previously shopped at Tesco and Asda, I was always at the Customer Services desk getting free stuff because of this. :)

Aldi & Lidl are way more accurate than the others, although part of that is because there are very few multibuys and similar offers that have a bad habit of getting forgotten in other shops.

I never have an issue and if they double scan something it is sorted out there and then. Contrast to the other supermarkets.

Noticed LOADS of price drops in-store today, especially on chicken products (Small Chickens now £2.39!), washing machine liquid 40p off to £1.99 and cheaper mince were some of the ones I buy. Mainly 10p reductions as such, fruit and veg reduced as well, leeks now 56p from 89p.

Is this in Aldi or Lidl?
  • I'm sorry to "hijack" a thread about Good Buys but Re: "On almost every shop at either store, and certainly over the last year or so of above about £10, an extra item has been added to my bill." from post #89:

I appreciate that not everybody will find that either Lidl or Aldi have overcharged them; I merely wish to point out what happens with ME in order to increase awareness amongst shoppers using these stores.

Further, please do not assume that this is some kind of "Anti-Lidl" or "Anti-Aldi" campaign on my part; it is not, and I actually like both these shops and have used both for many years both in the UK and abroad.

There have been posts within these forums before about this overcharging in both, but I will enclose a few "linkies" from other sources too about this:

So even if YOU have not (to your knowledge) been overcharged, I say again: check your receipts. ;)

That's one of the advantages of packing on the bench afterwards - I always look at the receipt first and then catch the eye of the till operative if necessary (very rare).

One thing I can say is that the staff at both are super-efficient about refunding.

Exactly the same here. Both are excellent, in terms of quality and price, and I'd be happy to shop at either. It's just that you do tend to get used to the layout of one or the other, and it's therefore quicker to get round whichever one it is you choose.

Either way, you'll pay around 25% more for much the same things at Tesco etc (35% more at Waitrose).

I must confess I do tend to shop at the same stores as I know the layout so I probably will end up sticking to Aldi. if I need to go to Asda I will go to the one near my home rather than the one near work because I know my way around that one quicker.

Hubby's quite taken with the half and half bread at Aldi too. 45p compared to Warbies half n half £1 at Asda.

    Slowly converting him...
  • I love Aldi's Peppermint and Liquorice tea. It is delicious and just like the £4 tea pig version. I think it was £1.89 at Aldi's off of the top of my head.

Just be aware of the NEED to check your receipts before you leave the shop - in EITHER Lidl or Aldi. ;)
They are very good at adding an item in my experience, perhaps down to the speed of the cashiers.
On almost every shop at either store, and certainly over the last year or so of above about £10, an extra item has been added to my bill:eek:
I now will not leave the shop until I have checked my receipt, it is so common.
All these "extra's" soon add up.:p

Butter - salted or unsalted "Greenvale" British 250g block - is currently 75p at Aldi!
    :T:T

That applies to everywhere I shop ;) had mistakes happen in all of the supermarkets tbh, the annoying ones are when you check afterwards when it's too late :o

I think the point everyone else is making is "why single out Aldi /Lidl " ? checking your receipt ( wherever you shop ) is just common sense
