I would be quite likely to believe your belief
The police don't get involved in direct debits or arguments about bill payments.====0 -

"They did actually" could well mean they paid lip service and told you what you wanted to hear. You haven't specified anything they actually did and I'd be amazed if they had done anything, since in my experience they do little or (to be more exact) nothing on many far more serious and blatantly illegal instances.0 -

I have recently started applying for mortgages and it has been bought to my attention that I have four months worth of missed payments with Vodafone on my credit reports.
Up until last year, I had been a very loyal Vodafone customer, I had several phone and iPad contracts with them and never missed a payment once. I took out my last contract in 2014, in March 2015 I called up to end one of my iPad contracts and enquire about poor 3G signal on my current contract. When I called back in 2016 to check that my contract was ending as planned I was told my contract had another year and that my contract had only began in March 2015.
It became rapidly apparent that whoever helped me in 2015 had somehow upgraded my contract and started me on a new one without my permission because everytime I tried to argue about when my contract had started the reps would quote the date I had called the previous year to discuss my contract. I ended my payments to them on the correct date in 2016 but they continued chasing payment because they had incorrect information on their system.
After a few months of going back and fourth they allowed me to settle the dispute paying £100, a sum far less than what they were originally quoting. I only paid this as I was getting fed up of calling them up, being passed from person to person and being told different information each time. It almost felt that they make it as difficult as possible for people to sort things out so that people end up paying.
I have tried to call , email and live chat to resolve the issue of my credit report but as per usual I get passed to different people and get told different things each time. The more research I've done online the more I have realised just how many people this happens to! I really want to have this inaccurate data removed form my file without further delay. Can anyone offer advice on what to do? It's not fair that it is inhibiting me from getting a mortgage.0 -

if in a fit of pique you just cancelled the direct debit and thought the problem would go away there is no inaccurate data to remove, you were in default and that information should be held on your credit file for 6 years.====0 -
If its correct that you took out a contract on a set date and agreed terms with Vodafone to renew your contract if they then altered this by themselves this in itself is illegal and invalidates any contract you had. Perhaps this would fall under the Misrepresentation Act or even Unfair Contract and Terms act but either way you honoured your original agreed contract by paying monthly payments.
Therefore if you stopped this was within your original contract and it is not you that is in default but Vodafone. It might be worth you submitting a claim via small claims court and if you win, get a Statutory Demand Issued.
Just because they have said you are in default of your payment plan does not mean they are correct. Ask to listen to your actual recording of the conversation they said that you had to start a new contract. If they do not have it then that says a lot.!!!0 -
Hi Tom,
Thanks very much.
I didn't think about asking for the recording, I assume they must have to provide this on request so I will ask!
Thanks0 -
Dave surely you can't extend someone's contract without verbal/written confirmation agreed by the customer....0
