  • Hi Shal,

Also check out eBay.... u can usually get some quite good deals on baby clothes bundles.... Just make sure u check the price of the postage.
DS is also big for his age (7 mths and already wearing 9-12mths in some clothes!) due to OH being 6'7" For everyday, hanging around the house, dribbling and trying to eat the dog's toys, I buy clothes from Sainsburys and Tescos - they are pretty cheap and seem to last well.... I do buy bigger size tops tho, esp at Sains, as they can shrink in the drier (not DFW I know, but it keeps raining!) They are great for basics tho, body suits/sleep suits and bibs.

If u like the Next stuff, is there a Next Clearance shop anywhere near you? Also our local Mothercare has nearly always got clothes on sale, so that may be worth a look - ur local one, not mine :o

Might also be worth cancelling the directory too, if u can't close the acc yet.... not only does it remove the temptation, but I think they charge u £3/£4 a copy!

 Hi supersavershal, I think you need to be totally honest with each other (if you can) and you really need to know what debts each other has, otherwise you are never gonna get this sorted. My OH is a little like yours I too have to be very firm. It's the only way. Good Luck!

i had a big talk with my OH last night, about really working hard on sticking to to my budget this month, and him understanding when I say I can't afford to do stuff. his response? but i like the lifestyle we lead, i don't want to give that up.

    hmmmm

well i talked him round in the end and we're going for an october challenge on food shopping and petrol buying. we'll see who does best, but i think he's finally starting to get it!
current debt as at 10/01/11- £1250
  • Had a big row with OH on Friday. He bought some toys off someone in work for the kids for christmas. They were good value I was just angry that they were not accounted for in budget, I thought we had £270 for the week and he reduced that to £220 without a thought.I had a think about it and he was trying in his own way to save money. They will be good for christmas but he needs to tell me when he buys out of budget so I know where we are at.But there is light at the end of the tunnel, today he is doing overtime and again on Thursday, (I think liverpool are playing tomorrow so he wont do it then).
The other good thing is my mum has offered to pay half for catering at the christening so that wont cost as much.I havnt told OH because you know what he is like hel have the money ive saved spent on starwars figures and the like.Im expecting about £48 from quidco this month so thats going off the cc.And ive booked an overtime shift in work so there is another £100 at the end of November so things are getting better.Im having my hair cut tomorrow but my friend who is a hairdresser does it for me and usually only charges a tenner so that will perk me up.
  • Hi everyone, ive not posted on this thread for a while ive been really busy.Things are looking up at the moment.OH had a letter from citi cards today they are refunding £91 of charges, I had forgotton all about him claiming this back. That money can go towards paying the mint card off.OH did lots of overtime last week it wont be going off any debts though as we need it for the babys christening.
Im really nervous about the christening, what if people are bored, what if there isnt enough food.We sent out 50 invitations and not one person has rsvp d.How rude is that.?
Im also doing an overtime shift on my day off this week but that money will be going towards a college module im doing in my own time.I have reorganised my bedroom and got loads of "stuff" to ebay.I cant believe how much stuff ive accumulated. My house is slowly being decluttered. My manager has rung me again to encourage me to apply for the promotion.Apparantly she has interviewed 4 outside candidates and none of them are suitable.Im hoping she might come back to me with an improved offer, not pay but in the hours. If I could work 4 ten hour shifts I might consider it.But even if I dont im realy flattered that she and lots of my colleuges beleive im up to doing the job.OH is being really good this week but its making me nervous its like waiting for bad news, you know its coming and youd rather get it over with.I know he will probably get drunk at christening - there is allready talk of lighting cigars up ( he had some left from when we were on holiday).
Well thats me guys what have you all been up to?Whats the gossip....
  • Hi Shal, glad things are looking up for u..... Know what u mean about OH being good then waiting for the bad news.... OH announced yesterday that he is going to be saving £70 a month of his wages to go towards Xmas etc (bit late for this year, but good if he keeps it up for next year!). He also agreed to me taking all the money for his bills out of his acc (Sky, mobile etc) and putting it back in a couple of days before the bill goes out, meaning we wont be in the position where he's cleared out his acc then wondering why Voda are threatening to disconnect him  . Luckily, we bank with the same bank, so transfers are instant (and the money earns a little bit of interest for me too :D )

Definately go for the promotion.... will it mean much more money?:T

  • It probably wouldnt be much more money by the time ive paid a childminder and extra petrol but it would be nicer hours. At the moment im doing the night shift at the weekend. And it would mean more job satisfaction but I would probably lose a few mates due to the nature of the job.Il wait and see if she improves the hours.
Great news for you with OH wanting to save money, sounds like his lightbulb is shineing.I have taken control of OHs finances too ive moved all his direct debits to my account and have made him pay a weekly amount into my account to cover them.He is getting there slowly.Christmas is coming though and he keeps seeing things on adverts he would like and I mean they are toys like Dr Who figures! I dont think that will ever stop but at least he hasnt borrowed money in work (well that I know about anyway).
  • That's a good start for ur OH tho! Bless them, they just take a bit of time to catch up! I think mine just got sick running out of money then me refusing to give him any :D

  • We have paid off a credit card, it didnt have a big balance but it feels good to have even one paid off.The hopeless spender has been good lately, he did have a small slip up when he bought a star wars monopoly game but ds loved it so I didnt shout too much, I would have preffered if he had put it away for christmas though. He said he got a game of monopoly every christmas, this sounded odd so I asked him "why did you need a new one each year?" he replied "all the pieces were missing by boxing day".
I found this amazing when I was a child if we had lost the pieces of a game my parents would not have bought us a replacement we would have been told no way, if you cant look after the one youve been given you wont be getting a new one.I am 34 and still have the same game of operation and frustration I was given when I was 8!
Perhaps this gives me an insight into why he buys "stuff" like he does.He always tells me I was lucky as my family were comfortable and his family were poor, if they were constantly replacing things because they werent looked after im not surprised they were poor, but I cant say that to him as they are dead and he thinks Im slagging them off.
He did OT again this week to pay for paint for living room ( to go with new sofa) we did need as our present one is a disgrace it has 3 legs and a hole in (where studs on OH jeans ripped it).
I really missed mse in the down time but OH was made up as I fell off the wagon and wasted a fair bit of cash on cr*p.
  • Well done on paying a cc off SSS!!! Doesn't matter how small the balance is, its a good emotional boost for you...... make sure u cut it into tiny pieces and cancel it straight after the payment has cleared!

    Well done :T
