To avoid a bleak economic future as a sidelined "has been" with a bombed-out currency, a fully-blown brain drain, dwindling inward investment, and high unemployment.

Of course, we'd have our country back, and that would be the main thing.

BTW, while it's clearly important that we retain these key freedoms, it's every bit as important that we announce that we're going to retain them ASAP as uncertainty is already causing serious damage that will take a long time to rectify.

I think the opposite. If you ran the referendum again, it'd be remain. This needs to be pushed through knowing the majority now don't want it.

Proof or just your humble opinion?

You'd expect retail sales measured in sterling to increase given the drop in the value of sterling, and there may be some real rises down to factors such as the weather.

Ditto those who say the stock market has recovered since the referendum. Last time I checked, the FTSE 100 was still down 6% if measured in dollars and the FTSE 250 down 10% due to the UK exposure of companies in that index.

UK industrial output growth fastest for 17 years
UK industrial output grew at the fastest rate for 17 years in the April-to-June quarter, official figures show.
Industrial output grew 2.1% compared with the first quarter of the year, the Office for National Statistics said.
Despite the quarterly figures there were signs that growth on a monthly basis was slowing during the three month period.
But the ONS said "very few" respondents had been affected by the uncertainty from the EU referendum vote on 23 June.

    Trade deficit hits seven-month high
The UK imported a record amount of goods and services in June, pushing the trade deficit to a seven-month high.
An increase in oil, chemicals and aircraft imports meant the UK imported £48.9bn in June, taking the monthly trade deficit to £5.1bn.
The data predominantly relate to the period before the UK voted to leave the EU, meaning the subsequent sharp fall in sterling has not yet worked its way through.

Britain’s £12.5bn trade in goods deficit is the worst for any June, ever, and the highest for any month since March 2015.

You've got to wonder how long relying on "the kindness of strangers" was sustainable?

    From the same BBC article.
Some recent surveys have suggested the economy slowed sharply in the wake of the Brexit vote.

Lee Hopley, chief economist at EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, said: "Clearly, indicators of sentiment post referendum suggest that we've hit the high point for manufacturing this year.

"Amidst the wavering levels of confidence however we should take away some positive news, firstly that manufacturing entered this period of uncertainty from a relatively strong stance and the weaker exchange rate could yet bring benefits on the export side."

However, Mr Tombs said: "We fear that the trade boost could take even longer than usual to materialise this time, because exporters will be very reluctant to invest until the UK's future trade arrangements are known.

"In short, hopes that exports will surge and offset the Brexit hit to domestic demand seem misplaced."

In June alone, Britain exported £12bn of goods and services to the European Union, up by £500m compared to May.
But Britain also imported £20.3bn from the EU, up by £800m, so the overall trade gap with the EU worsened.

Those 4 freedoms we're told we have to adhere to aren't going down too well in several countries. Switzerland, with access to single market, has already held a referendum and the Swiss said immigration needs to be curbed. There's a current stand off with the EU.

Several other EU countries are expressing concern including Hungary who are also holding a referendum on EU immigration policy in October. Last week French police pepper-sprayed immigrants trying to cross over the border from Italy

All is not well in the land of the 4 freedoms.
