    France to veto TTIP deal.

So much for the EU being able to negotiate better trade deals. Sixty years and counting.

Looks like we'll be at the front of the queue after all. oregonian_winesmiley.gif

Brexit will leave 2 million Britons in legal limbo abroad.

Yes, if we would vote ourselves into unsplendid isolation, that will indeed have repercussions for Brits abroad. Probably not of great concerns to our resident little englanders, but worth noting anyway. :)

You do know there are millions of Brits living in countries which we don't have freedom of movement agreements don't you - are they all in limbo? And of course soem brits lived ni Europe before freedom of movement was introduced - how did they ever manage?

The gulf between the two sides was highlighted by a massive leak of documents on Monday, first reported by the Guardian, which revealed “irreconcilable” differences on consumer protection and animal welfare standards.

Yes, we'll be first in the queue to have our consumer protection rights and animal welfare standards eroded, imposed by the US on little england. Really looking forward to that one.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

'Consumer protection and animal welfare standards' is completely different from 'We French have a farming lobby who are politically untouchable'.

'Consumer protection and animal welfare standards' is completely different from 'We French have a farming lobby who are politically untouchable regardless of the wishes of the other 499m citizens of the EU'.

I thought this so-called undemocratic EU was just railroading legislation, now it seems individual countries do have a voice.
    Interesting. :)

That can easily be negotiated round. Plenty of other countries have trade deals with the US, such as Canada, Korea, Mexico Peru, Australia. I doubt whether they would accept their consumer rights and animal welfare protection being eroded. But its a convenient excuse for the EU to fail again.

With each and every EU country able to veto trade deals it's akin to the UK negotiating free trade deals and every county having a veto. It simply isn't going to work is it.

1m French farmers vetoing a trade deal that will benefit 499m other Europeans - can't get much more democratic than that ...apparently

Individual countries can't veto EU legislation, but they can veto trade deals. Which is why the EU have so few.

This trade deal we will negotiate with the U.S. once we are 'free of the shackles of the EU', will that be more or less advantageous to us than the current one on the table?
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
