    What's the big secret here?

Presumably you hope the government's aims are in line with your expectations. What if they're not - happy to wait until March 2019 to find out?

You're doing a politician on me!

Can you answer the question - what aims would you like Mrs May to reveal at this point apart from the broad brush aims she's outlined?

Very interesting. However don't underestimate the value of branding.
In my other life I was a salesman and have some understanding of the subject.
Just look at mobile phones. OK this is a much more fast moving fashion product than cars but.
Apple and Samsung are the market leaders in Britain. They sell phones for £600/£800. Their are many Chinese phones available with the same specs and half the price. However Apple is the brand that many young and not so young people desire to own and stretch their budgets to do so.
Please let us not have a debate on phones.
I just was trying to illustrate that fashion trumps logic in many cases.

Yes, lets have a debate about phones or any other product you like.

You're correct that you can buy Chinese phones with the same specs as Apple or Samsung for a lot less money. Problem is that the specs don't tell the whole story as there are major quality differentials which mean that the Apple and Samsung products are still working long after the cheap Chinese stuff went in the dustbin. There's an old saying that if you buy cheap you buy twice.

You say that you used to be a salesman. Funny that you don't seem to understand this.

    *Sigh*
    Again?
The "big secret" is that we (the UK) do not want them (the EU) to know our strategy before negotiations even start.
This would weaken our negotiating position.
Even only telling wotsthat these plans might lead to a Junckers-style leak and (again) weaken our position.

As the old Chinese proverb says:
"Do not fear going forward slowly.
    Fear only to stand still."

I'm not doing a politician at all. You've spent thousands of posts telling us what brexit is and why it's great and, for reasons of national security, you suddenly have no interest in whether Mrs May's plans are in-line with your hopes.

She's going to have to reveal what she wants very shortly. I just have this strange idea that maybe the British public should hear about it before the EU.

I welcomed the White Paper in February. Rather late and a bit broad brush but it's now time for a bit more meat on the bones.

    Take immigration
We are considering very carefully the options that are open to us to gain control of the numbers of people coming to the UK from the EU. As part of that, it is important that we understand the impacts on the different sectors of the economy and the labour market. We will, therefore, ensure that businesses and communities have the opportunity to contribute their views. Equally, we will need to understand the potential impacts of any proposed changes in all the parts of the UK. So we will build a comprehensive picture of the needs and interests of all parts of the UK and look to develop a system that works for all.

OK. They've been considering really carefully the options - after a few months what have they concluded? What's the mechanism for businesses and communities to contribute their views? They've been building a comprehensive picture of the needs and interests of all parts of the UK - where can I find the picture they've built?

I don't want the EU to know the strategy either.

I do want to know what the government's aims are.

    They're not the same thing.

    So we hold NO aces then;

    http://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/scots-fishing-leaders-reject-sturgeon-s-claims-of-sell-out-1-4441764

The Scottish Fishermen’s Fishermen today endorsed the UK Government's plans to “reassert control” over Scottish waters after a letter from UK environment secretary Andrea Leadsom pledged to end the "mutual access" arrangement which allows French and Spanish fishermen to trawl freely in Scotland's seas.

Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) chief executive Bertie Armstrong today rejected this interpretation. He said: "Any reading of this letter in full makes it clear that the UK government is committed to ensuring we exit the CFP and re-assert control of our waters."In fact, at our meeting with Ms Leadsom in March she said that we are leaving the EU and we are leaving the CFP. It is evident that the government shares the determination of the entire industry to seize this opportunity to re-generate our coastal communities."

I'm still not sure what aims you wish May to disclose at this point other than the broad-brush aims such as managed migration rather than a free for-all.

I'm very happy with the broad aims and would not expect a professional person to go blathering in detail prior to a negotiation.

You are quite right. Don't most of Britains fruit and some veg come from Spain. Britain will not stop buying Spanish tomatoes just because they will cost more, or will they?
If they do the effect on Spain and British sandwiches and salads will be catastrophic!

Brits tend to not care where goods come from - they buy the cheapest (which is why countries will be queuing up to do trade deals with us)

For everything Spain produces in winter the same can be brought from Morocco.....The EU does not have a FTA with Morocco with regards to agriculture.

A large market gardening greenhouse sector is here in my area which grows and supplies peppers, tomatoes etc etc

Given the right tax incentives it could be cost effective to grow more of our own rather than import from Spain and the Spanish will know this.

In other words many Europeans would have their livelihoods placed at risk should the EU wish to erect barriers.

It's no good thinking about EU exports to the UK as a whole, it's totally irrelevant to the millions that are engaged in UK trade. They wont accept self harm

I don't think it unreasonable for May to now disclose a bit more detail about what 'managed migration' means.

Someone else who voted for Brexit has suggested they did so in the hope expensive EU workers would be repatriated and replaced by cheaper (and more likely darker and non-Christian) third country workers on short term work visas.

That view of managed migration will be very different to what most people expected when voting Brexit but, then again, you all seem to have absolute trust Mrs May is working to deliver your version of Brexit. Anyway, I hope it's a nice surprise for you when you find out in March 2019.
