Juncker is well known for being an unauthodox Politicien. For me I find that refreshing.

What does that actually count for? Sooner or later he'll be gone and forgotten.

And yet the EU/US trade talks were negotiated in complete secrecy for years. They weren't too fussed about keeping the EU parliament informed for that one.

Selective applications of the rules when it suits Brussels. They are clearly making an example of Britain voting to leave to deter other member states.

This is disgusting behaviour and will only harden the will to leave of the British people.

Departure of a member from the EU for the first time is rather more fundamental to the EU than negotiation of a trade deal, that never actually seemed to get that close to completion.

In any case the EU can choose to conduct the negotiation however they choose from their side, its not something we can dictate to them.

I'm not sure why this comes as a surprise. This is exactly as was predicted. The last thing the EU wants to do is signal to Euroskeptics across Europe that leaving is painless.

Not only that, but the 27 member governments will also be kept closely briefed, which is how it should be in a democracy. Oh hang on, the EU is supposed to be an undemocratic, totalitarian dictator.

Nothing democratic about such 'briefings' – which will just be designed to cause mischief for Britain and put our country in a bad light.

The more I listen to the delightful unelected EU politburo members' hostile rhetoric, the more it has deepened my conviction that we must leave – and as soon as possible. Why any Brit would want to be a part of a dictatorial empire – when we've surely had quite enough of empires, which all eventually fall apart under the weight of the people's dissatisfaction – is really quite beyond me.

If other countries want to be snared ever deeper into such an empire (generally through blackmail), then let them. I don't want my country to be a part of it. It's easy enough for remainers to move to continental Europe if they do not want to be a part of an independent, sovereign Britain.

    Wholly agree with you Sapphire.
Brexit is an existential crisis for the EU and it should be clear now, although some of us already knew it, that the big players in the EU view it as such. Yesterday's disclosure about the Juncker meeting was designed to weaken PM May in the midst of an election campaign, an election that has been called by her to specifically give her a mandate to deal with the negotiations ahead. That iwanton interference in the affairs of a sovereign nation is precisely the reason I voted out.

I agree completely. It's disgusting that the 27 countries are going to be kept informed about the progress of talks just because they will have to vote on the outcome. That's very undemocratic. Bad.

Brexiteers are spinning around in ever decreasing circles.

Based on their predictions last year, the EU was meant to be in a state of near collapse by now, begging us for a trade deal, with the rest of the world lining up with open arms.

Juncker has told May exactly what is going to happen. She will wait, and the UK, whatever will be left of it, will accept European terms or it will get nothing.

Meanwhile Brexit is yesterday's news for the rest of the world no matter how many airmiles Liam Davis racks up.

I can see why May called an election now. Brexit is going to be an absolute forking disaster and she knows it.

Interesting how rapidly support for the Tories is in freefall at the moment.
Brexiteers are in denial. They seriously think we can have a Brexit without a trade deal and that will not affect the living standards of millions of people in the UK. How can they be so naive or perhaps they dont care? Their hatred of the EU has eclipsed rational consideration of the future of this country. Someone says 'poor Moby stuck in a country they hate'. I dont hate my country I fear for its future and I hate the uncertain times we are in. It is clear the 27 are unified, France will elect Macron and there will be no EU meltdown. The Brexiteer fantasy of the end of the corrupt edifice is not going to be realised. The Germans and a re-energised Macron will see to that. Junkers has drawn the line in the sand. The EU will play dirty. There will be no secrecy in the coming negotiations. May wants a free hand and secrecy, (a blank cheque). Thats how she operates. Thats how she ran the Home Office. She is thin skinned and makes enemies and likes to be in control of the agenda. That is not going to happen no matter how big her election victory is! The negotiations will be leaked time and time again. No way will we be given a favourable trade deal by leaving the Single Market. We will pay big time and that will mean costs of imports will rise again and again. Future Trade deals will only be gained by undercutting the eu and that can only be done by driving down costs affecting the terms and conditions of millions of people.Do working people in this country seriously want to give the likes of Theresa May control over their future prospects. What evidence is there that she cares about working people. Look at education, look at the NHS. See the state public services are in and the answer is clear.

We'll all be dead and forgotten one day. I don't think that prevents us from being bothered about the here and now.

I don't have a problem with keeping people informed, I do have an issue with deliberate leaks.

Something I'm finding baffling though. If Juncker went to the dinner meeting with an open mind, why would he have taken copies of two unrelated deals with him?

If I am wrong wondering whether the EU wants to punish us, why did Juncker say "Brexit cannot be a success"?

And as for the mixed messages regarding the rights of immigrants/ emigrants, last week the EU said this had to be priority as real people are affected, then why when Theresa May said they could have a deal by June on this point did Juncker take the aforementioned papers out of his bag and say it's too complicated?
