    Everything is under control.
While we speak, Liam Fox is groveling to Philippine despot Duterte and Theresa is trying to sell even more weaponry to the Saudis, that well known beacon of civil, human rights and gender equality in the Middle East. Global Britain full steam ahead!
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Controlled immigration similar to an Oz system perhaps.

Look at the global picture. Plenty of unskilled labour willing to work for less money. As they want the quality of living the West enjoys. Economic migration isn't going to stop anytime soon either. Resulting in no shortage of supply. Minimum wage along with compulsory employer pension contributions is the only way of keeping matters in check for those at the bottom of the rung.

Australia has a far greater number of legal migrants arriving each year as a proportion of the population than anywhere in the EU and among those is a large number of unskilled or semi-skilled workers.

I'm not entirely sure what you expect from Brexit and immigration but you're almost certainly going to be disappointed. Most fruit pickers in Australia are foreigners. They use drunken backpackers, charge them a lower rate of tax and give them some extra visa time. There is no way that any Australian wants to pick fruit for a living when they can just as easily work a checkout or pour coffees for the same money.

Similarly, why the hell would any Brit want to pick strawberries in the rain at 4am? It's horrible, backbreaking work. Yeah it's fun with the kids for 30 minutes at the local pick your own just before lunch but really? Who here has even done a day's work picking fruit let alone relied on it to pay the bills? I sure as heck haven't and nor do I plan to. Forget that.

Generally skilled workers and by choice to be fair.

You couldn't make it up could you! We've chosen to turn our back on our closest allies for a very uncertain future fraught with dangers and uncertainties. We had a balancing, moderating role in the EU which was appreciated by the US, Canada, Australia etc. Most importantly we were at the table where the decisions in our region of the world are made. We've just walked away from it all.....so irresponsible imo! It's illogical and clearly driven by xenophobia!

Just returning the favour from earlier Conrad. ;)
No signed 'future' Brexit deal within two years, says Theresa May

The UK will adopt 'third party status' in order to conduct trade negotiations after the two-year Article 50 process, says the PM.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

"... it confirms UK acceptance of the final deal being negotiated under Article 218 of the EU Treaty, which means the entire EU27, including Spain and the regional Belgian parliaments such as Wallonia, will have a veto on the final deal"
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

Why is this news? All will be well with trade, that's the bottom line, Project Nonsense was only for hystericals that believe every challenge spells the end of life as we know it.

    .

A point endlessly covered in the Referendum debates; Australia CHOOSES those levels, and guess what it has a lot of useable space to fill.
  • The Times is today reporting the EU preparing to offer ultimatums to Hungary and Poland:
Germany, France and up to 21 other countries will give an ultimatum to Hungary and Poland this year demanding that they accept their quota of migrants or get out of the EU.
