Btw Moby I'm sitting on the bog here and have Paxmans Empire open in front of me. The East India company produced much good and wealth for the host nations too. Paxman was interviewing in India recently and whole swathes of Indian society celebrate the British Empire and thier links to it. They have DNA tests to prove thier Anglo links etc. These things are far more complex than the lefts virtue signalling imply, the world isn't divided into lefty goodies and righty baddies you see.

Millions of Asians benefitted from the establishment of British made trade satellites such as Singapore, literally a swamp island until a Brit thought it could make a good trading post

Tell that to the people of Syria, Yemen etc .....global power politics exploiting the weak is alive and well....look at the history of the West's intervention in Africa. Look at what the US did in Central America. Russia is now flexing its muscles again and China intends to expand. Yep enlightened times!

Your posts are classic examples of confirmation bias. You make the 'facts' fit your belief system and read/watch things that are likely to confirm your bias.

    Whereas yours are not? Hypocrite.

And you are changing the subject because? Unless you are unutterably stupid, you know that I was contrasting the activities of the East India Company three centuries ago with the behaviour of the EU towards Africa today.

I agree there is a section of Indian society that were drawn in by the imperialists and because they were given a modicum of influence and power they basked in the glory of their status. It was self interest....does us no credit though! You say you agree there was exploitation but you never talk about unless challenged. Ever considered why Liverpool and Bristol became such wealthy trading ports? Like many other countries we are waist deep in exploitation and slavery....nothing to do with the EU. The EU was a moderating influence holding back the worst excesses of nationalism. The EU was founded on the values of internationalism. The potency ansd spirit and qualities you crave for a return of will lead to one place and that is war!....Look at the history of Europe and learn from it.

so why is the EU a protectionism organisation and why does it discrimination against the countries of Africa and the Middles East and the majority of the countries of the world.
