The government's handling of the article 50 process, imo, is indicative of a certain ineptitude. An inept government is likely to have an inept negotiating strategy and employ inept negotiators.

    Maybe we're at cross purposes.

you have now changed your argument : if our government is inept then it is inept whether or not we brexit or remain, which whilst worrying, has nothing to do with your post which was

    S & P gives our post-Brexit prospects a thumbs down:
In a bleak assessment of the UK’s prospects following the EU referendum, Standard & Poor’s said Britain was a diminishing global economic power on the verge of losing the ability to freely export goods and services to the EU.
S&P said the UK was at risk of a further downgrade, following its unusual decision to slash the rating by two notches from the top AAA rating to AA, following the 23 June referendum.
S&P said the “negative” outlook on the UK’s sovereign rating reflected the multiple risks associated with the decision to leave the EU, exacerbated by Britain’s diminishing ability to respond to those risks.
“This assertion is based on what we view as the UK’s weaker institutional capacity for effective, predictable, and stable policymaking.”

Not that there were no contingency plans in place under the previous administration. Much as if Scotland had won the last independence referendum. There would have been much scratching of heads and puzzled looks. Where do start? There's been much reallocation of resources within the Civil Service. Trouble is everyone that's moved has to be replaced. Not a quick process by any means. As existing pieces of work have to be handed over.

There's currently a restructuring of BEIS , the formation of UKRI and the ongoing austerity drive. Never a quiet moment in fact.

The negotiating position is dramatically influenced by the government's handling of the legalities of article 50. If they handle it badly they might not even need a negotiating position.

indeed , if the anti democratic neoliberal elite have their (your) way the brexit will fail to invoke qrticle 50.

However, if article 50 is invoked, the legal issues for calling for article 50 are irrevelevant to the UK-EU negotiation just as the the hopeless, useless Hollande is totally irrelevant too.

Such good entertainment seeing the Remainers tie themselves in knots, fretting about process and nonsense.

For all we know next year Germany and France may have leaders that are at best luke warm on the EU. All this Remoaner hysteria will have been in vain

In reality we could just send a letter saying we've left. I know this sends Remoaners into a tail spin but we really could do it and life and trade would go on just fine

Well we could but we've agreed to follow the rules which requires a two year notice period.

I prefer a government that follows the rules rather than makes it up as they go along.

If I had my way this would have been through parliament, the government would've won and article 50 would've been invoked already.

It's the elite you're part of making a shambles of this.

Makes me laugh how much bile and hate Moby pours on to the white uneducated working classes.....and he calls himself a Leftie. Emily Thornberry hating on white van man, Chakrabarti and Essex Man. It's no wonder the Labour Party have lost the working class vote. Bunch of patronising, elitist snobs.

They are called "Liberal Bigots" in Owen Jones book "Chavs - the demonisation of the working classes"

Basically they are Liberals who hate on working class white people. Too many of them around in left wing politics these days. Daft thing is they don't even realise they are bigoted - and actually think they are superior to everyone else!
