But there are 4 groups:
- Leave
- Remain
- Abstain
- Not asked
And it's up to Parliament to consider the best interests of all 4 groups, not just the vocal first 2.
They'll also be able to act on a lot more information than the electorate had 5 months ago; discussions with industry, more details on plans, etc.0 -
Ohhhhhhhh.... yeeeeeah baby !0

I just find it incredible that Brexiteers are in such a meltdown over democracy which is all this is about. The whole point of their campaign appeared to be giving Parliament control over our destiny yet when that actually happens they don't like it!
The actual verdict is here, it might help if some were to actually read it

What many of us wanted was the primacy of UK law above EU law.
In retrospect, the issue of whether a referendum was intended to be implemented without a parliamentary vote may have been an interesting question.
In my view, the intention of any referendum is to provide a mechanism for the popular direct vote to over ride that of MPs.0 -

Surely there would be uproar if Parliament decided not to trigger Article 50? I voted Remain, would love to find a way for Scotland to do so but the majority of people in England and Wales voted Leave. Surely that can't be ignored?0 -

If you start to allow the government to bypass parliament if they decide it's in their interest then we are down a slippery slope to dictatorship.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Just watch out for letting Fascism creep in cause you Brexiters are not very good at seeing things for what they really are.0

Clapton why exactly. What laws and why and how do they affect you directly, why do you care ?0

That's the problem in bowing to populism and referendum results rather than parliament doing what they are meant to.
.
Surely, by definition, the 'left' is always populist?
Free stuff, get your free stuff here, someone else is paying, all issues are fixable if we just spend a bit more.
Right across Europe left leaning social democratic parties are out of favour and falling out of power, aside from Portugal, perhaps Spain is about the only nation where a left wing Govt might take charge.
There's a reason for this and it has to do with the way left wing people feel they and they alone hold the wisdom that needs to be handed down in order to remedy 'false consciousness'.
Take for example mass immigration; The rights answer is to LISTEN to the people and act upon it. The lefts answer is to claim the people 'have it wrong', or worse 'must be xenophobic', and thus must be re-educated (Ken Loach said as much on QT)0 -
No, your understanding of the words is incorrect.
Highest - biggest number
Majority - greater than half
Some didn't actively abstain. I had some friends who went on holiday and didn't apply in time (their fault but still not a conscious deliberate act on their part).
Fine, use highest. It doesn't change the reality that there were 3 outcomes from the vote does it.
Leave
Remain
Abstain (whether you wanted to or not)
End of.0
