no, a referendum is what i meant
The politicians leading the country said to its people they could vote on a highly significant matter, and then it could be taken away from them0 -

I think it will depend on the form that the debate/vote takes.
I don't know if the government could just put forward a motion to the effect of 'This House believes that article 50 should be triggered' and that will do the trick. If they need to pass legislation then I suppose they would need to involve the Lords.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
what was the point off a referendum... I wonder if the pounds going to go up? hahahaha.“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

The government lied I'm afraid. They weren't in a position (subject to appeal) to act on the result of the referendum without a parliamentary vote.0 -
Depending on how the probable appeal goes of course.
The government have lost anyway.
Next step is the European Court of Justice if the government wins at the Supreme Court, and I can't see that happening :D
A great decision by the High Court, Leavers wanted Parliamentary Sovereignty, and now they've got it💙💛 💔0 -
Thanks for keeping the figures coming. In this phoney post Brexit world the good news just keeps on coming.
I hope you will continue to post and hopefully they will continue to be good numbers,
We all need, on both sides of the argument to keep up with key market numbers.

Great! we have our Democracy back 👍'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

This puts the House of Commons in an awkward position, and possibly the Lords in an even more awkward position.
If the government loses appeal they will no doubt ask parliament, who will then have to decide, implement the decision of the referendum or ignore it. I would think all of the MP's who vote to ignore the result who represent a constituency that vote leave will be out.
If the Lords block it, I would imagine there would be a groundswell of support for MP's who promote the removal of the Lords as it currently exists.
Whichever way it goes now the MP's and Peers either go with or against the majority of the country. Both options determining the fate of many political careers, parties and institutions in the eyes of the people.0 -
