I applied for M & S account 3 or 4 weeks ago; they asked for proof of my income, then didn't answer my e-mails asking for clarification of exactly what they wanted.

Just applied online to Yorkshire Bank.
All done and dusted, got my a/c number, internet and phone banking set up, debit card and PIN ordered, switch date arranged.
    Easiest and most efficient ever.

So now I can tell M & S not to bother, and get my 150 pounds for switching to Yorkshire bank instead.

Personally I don't see where the 'instead' comes into it... Unless you have hit a total brick wall with M&S, I wouldn't be giving up on getting the £220 they are offering (plus the 6% regular saver), especially if you've already put in the leg work...

You're right of course, I'm just feeling annoyed with them, but no need to cut off one's nose to spite one's face, eh?

My switch to M&S completed today.

Only fly in the ointment was NCP telling me my DD for my season ticket failed when it's not even due until 12th (I suspect all they've had is a notification from M&S that my account has changed) and today, on receipt of my monthly season ticket invoice, they've added a £5 charge!! Cheeky much? Anyway if NCP refuse to pay that back, M&S will. I don't care that it's only a fiver, it's the principle.

Other than that, everything else has gone smoothly, all my DDs/SOs are present and correct and my account is up and running.

So reading through this thread M&S are not the easiest bank to join but I'm after the 6% regular savings account. So this morning I've filled in the application form. Now need to wait for application forms through the post.

I'll need to create a donor account to be able to do the switching. Sounds like I can create one at Santander or Nationwide (where I have existing accounts) for that purpose.

See how it goes - this will be the first time I've used the switching services.

Don't forget you also need the 2 x DDs & £1k monthly feed to get the full package of goodies- can't remember what the conditions of the switch timing are but end date is early April so you need to get moving!

  • Hi everyone, It's been ages since I posted on the forum so please be gentle!

I've made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon at my local M&S with a view to opening a current account. I'm just reading the literature on the Premier Current Account, and for 10 quid a month I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of upgrading (I know it's subject to status). My dilemma is that I was reluctant to get the Santander 123 account in view of its recent price hike, but then again the M&S premier account is double that! Although you get some "perks".

I'm also thinking about getting getting rid of my HSBC credit card; I seldom use it, but when I do I pay it off in full anyway, but at a whopping 25.9% APR I think the M&S one might be better for me. I'm pretty sure they will try and sell that to me anyway. But just wondered on the off chance if anyone out there has their CC and how are the benefits in terms of earning points etc? I used my debit card a lot so I'm not sure I'd reap much of the rewards of the CC. Decisions.

Also love the views on the debit card :D thought some of the comments were pretty funny!:rotfl:

    Thanks in advance :)

Yes I'll set up 2 DD on the Donor Account and I'll do the £1000 pay in (and almost £750 out) standing orders once the M&S current account is up and running so I should get the £10 per month reward too.

I set the donor account up as Santander Everyday Account and that is already visible on their online banking page (but I do have a relationship with them already.
  • I've just applied today for this account, but having read some of the posts do wonder how long it will take. Like many others I had no email confirming my application, I just filled it in online and like others am waiting to hear back.

I already have an M&S Credit Card which I've had for years, plus a few pence left in a old savings account that I haven't used for years, so I am hoping they won't want too much proof of name & address etc.

I am currently with Santander and also have 2 ISA's with them, so I'm not sure how I will be able to move the money over from them once my current account is closed. I have sent messages to Santander on a few occasions but they don't seem to understand what I am asking!

Like others I'd also like to be able to get the extra £10 a month, so I'm wondering if when and if my account is switched over I should just open another Santander account to feed £1,000 in and out of the M&S account for that and then also open one of the 6% savings accounts.

Another idea would be to open an a/c with a different provider eg TSB classic, or a classic +. Reason being you could then take advantage of 5% interest on the latter. No DDs needed but £500 per month which could just cycle round - of course it could also be a larger sum!

Just reread your post. Moving money? is that back and forth between a.n.other a/c & M&S? or is that getting money out of the ISAs? If that's a problem then yes, just open another Santander. Suspect many current accounts are paying a better rate than ISAs.
